Hi everyone,

I was just looking for some input on where everyone keeps their SPGs during their dive. I normally dive with my hands folded in front of me and keep my SPG resting on top of my left hand (hose threaded under my armpit and gauge console on my left hand). <-- I hope that description makes sense.

Does anyone use any sort of clip, etc? If so, what/how/why?

Thanks!

I like mine attached to my first stage :D sorry couldn't resist.

I have a basic brass 'n' glass SPG on a shortish hose (26" I think) and clip it to my left hip. I don't personally don't see any need to check it anywhere near frequently enough to warrant having it on my hand.

edit - more info - it is clipped with a bolt snap which is tied to the SPG like this How to Attach a Snap - Dive Gear Express (pretend the light is an SPG)

I either unclip mine, look at it and return it, or just grab it and "aim" it towards my head and look down at it

And my answer, Sean, was "at the end of a high pressure hose". Both wiseacres, aren't we?

I have a "kangaroo pocket" on my back-inflate BC, and it is actually part of my waistbelt. Inside the pocket and extending through a grommet is (GASP) a strong retractor. Yup, I don't really care if this is "PC", but it keeps my console close to my center line, yet it's easily manipulated so I can check it as often as necessary. Nope, it's never once tangled, and no one can convice me that I'll die from using it.

(sorry if that last part sounds shrill...I once had an unpleasant encounter with a "dive nazi" over retractor use. :D)

When diving backmount, mine is on a 24" HP hose routed down my left side. The SPG is small 'brass and glass' and attached to my left hip d-ring with a bolt-snap. When I want to read the SPG, I reach down..unclip...read and return it. After a short while, with practice, the process becomes very instinctive.

The reason for that configuration is because I dive in confined spaces regularly... and it prevents entanglements. It is a nice streamlined solution otherwise though...

Clipped to my left hip D-ring with a bolt snap. It's not something I need to have in view constantly.

I knew someone/multiple people would say this. I'm glad I wasn't disappointed! :D

So far the common thread I'm noticing is that I look at my SPG MUCH more frequently than other people. Maybe this is a newbie habit?

Better too much, than too little. :)

Over time, you'll become more familiar with your air consumption and, barring any gas losses, be in a position to predict your pressure at any given moment during the dive. The SPG just becomes a 'check' of that prediction.

Clipped to left D ring on hip like others. When I am in current and chasing losters I check after a catch because I know I can burn some gas if there is a chase.

also on 24" hp hose clip on left hip d-ring. You shouldn't need to stare at it every second, so no need to have it in front of you all the time. Even if you look at it once every 5 minutes, it is still nice to have it out of the way.

+1 on left hip D ring, as DD says, you will get used to how much gas you use through experience
