I finally got in for my first lesson last night! I am doing private lessons because of my work schedule, and we got a lot in last night. After treading water and 300 yard swim we went through equipment assembly and snorkel techniques. We had about an hour left in class so I got to suit up. Even just cruising around the bottom of the pool for a while was better than I could have thought! Thank you to all the members on here that helped me in choosing a LDS. My instructor is very patient, and has a true love for the sport that really shows through in his teaching. I think this site is a very valuable resource, and with spending hours a night just going through posts and reading advise from people very experienced in this field, I am at least a little more mentally prepared for learning to dive. Once again, thanks to everyone on here for the advise, and I'll keep posting on how training is going!

whcacher, my experience was exactly like yours. 2 minutes in the water and I knew scuba was going to be my thing. We early addicts, of course, turn out to be the best divers, as I am sure you already know! Years ago a friend told me this riddle: What's the difference between a hobby and a horse? Answer: you can get off the horse! There's some truth for you. Save your money for dive gear, dive trips, more classes. And consider this bonus-you are now easy to shop for- Christmas gifts, birthday gifts, any occasion gifts- get whcacher something scuba! Spread the word!

Glad things are working out well. For me, the pool experience was no big deal. My big moment was on the 4th ocean checkout dive when I was down 30' and looking up at the surface ripples.

Same here... My work schedule sucks as well. I'm going to start doing some night dives so that I can dive. As soon as I have a dive scheduled, it's all I can think about. I have a night shore dive scheduled for May 23 and my AOW scheduled May 24-26.

Good luck getting your OW done and see you under water some time!

We had about 10 ft of visibility on my OW dive, you couldn't see the surface. The next time I went to the same spot, I was amazed at what was 30 ft away because I couldn't see it before.

Welcome and congrats!

Breathing underwater and being weightless is something that has yet to get old for me.

welcome.....it's a wet and slippery slope from here on out!!!!!
and just think.....
it only gets better!!!!
have fun

I've got my first lesson tomorrow night, really looking forward to it, especially after reading this. Seems like I've been reading this forum for ages without actually doing anything.
