individuals learn and adapt. Intelligence is a evolutionary tool that allows an animal flexibility to survive and exploit novel circumstances. A polar bear learning to raid trash cans is an example of the bear taking advantage of an easy food source, avoiding rubber bullets would be another. Sharks avoid a diver's bubbles because it is easier for them to avoid the diver and never know the risk. I do know that in heavily spearfished areas, the fish will avoid divers. Humans are just exceptionally good at learning and adapting.

So far we have shark nets that, like culling, exact a high price for what they do.

Richard.

The shark nets really are more of a placebo in reality. The number of sharks found INSIDE the nets or ones that have been entangled and died trying to get OUT of the netted areas is astounding. Unfortunately uninformed people believe they work and protest their removal.

I'd suggest that you undertake further research on the nets as you clearly don't understand their function. To be better informed have a look at the link I provided in the last response on the other forum.

Incidentally, I've said it before and will say it again. This thread is not intended to be a discussion about methods used to mitigate the risk of a shark attack or air your views on the rights and wrongs of those methods. That kind of discussion is clearly not appropriate for the Basic forum.

I have avoided discussing those topics. The excursions into those topics have mostly come from those opposed to culling sharks.

I'm not sure how you worked out that I don't understand the function of the Shark nets. It ain't rocket science.. they are to provide habitat for seahorses:).. Make the swimmers think the big bitie things can't get them and create entanglement hazzards for marine creatures that think they have the right to swim in our designated areas!

Let me get this straight: you are giving a survey about a totally unrealistic hypothetical in the basic forum, but find a discussion of risk mitigation for that unrealistic scenario is inappropriate in a basic forum?

You really are more of a troll than I already figured...

If you seriously want to debate culling sharks start another thread in the Basic forum and see what happens.

Some people don't get that they do not run the board. Want to control answers and behavior? Start the thread on your own website. What is that by the way?

Well besides being "handsome" and "approachable" you are objective and obviously have big shoulders. But your view is invalid in the mind of the pollster because by merely having this forum you obviously don't care about swimming in shark infested waters :angrymob:
