Has me wondering too.
I used to enjoy chatting with a fellow who's grandson now runs the Harley dealership the old man started. Old man Spitzie was in his mid 70's and still riding his Harley in to the shop in good weather. He had compromised, and added a sidecar to compensate for losing some of his leg strength, but he was determined to live a full life as long as he was still alive to live it.
I expect to be like him as long as I possibly can, with both Harley's and diving.

At ages 63 (me) and 59 (the boss), my wife and do a mix. We really like Coz and Scuba Club, so we go there about every two years. We do two dive trips a year, and we are usually off to new destinations. In April we are off to Turneffe Island Resort (Belize) for a week. I used to dive the Channel Islands in So Cal but I don't really enjoy the "cold" water anymore.

Simple. My wife and I have had a long list of places around the world (non-diving) which we wanted to see while we could afford it. We had been to about half of those by 2006 when I got the dive bug. This put the other holiday plans on hold and my wife, only mildly interested in diving herself, was willing to be supportive. I decided that I would return the complement after I gave-up diving and we'd visit those other places together. By my reckoning, it will take us another 5 years to do so (after 2016), by which time both of us will be fully retired from work as well and planning to sell our house and move to a smaller place.

Sorry couldn't help myself Hintermann. In any event, you sound like a prince of a guy and I hope everything works out. Of course, I also hope your lovely wife will relent a little. I understand (erm well not really) that diving isn't the same for her as it is for you but the pull is there for you, if you are at all like most of the rest of us here on SB. That being the case, can't imagine the pain of withdrawal you will feel when the time comes in your plan to give it up.

So far 
2? I suspect that two trips to the same place would be enough for me Not counting local of course. When I have enjoyed a site I think I will go back but so far seem to wind up going somewhere different that catches my interest when the opportunity arises I am hoping for a second trip to Florida and BHB and perhaps another chance to dive with DrBillraying:

You are right when you say that it will be painful when I have to hang-up my fins. But that is my decision. My wife does not have to relent because she never asked me to quit diving in 2016 - in fact, when I told her that I was going to, her surprised reaction was "why?". But she understood when I explained. I think that it is only fair that I am prepared to give in 2016 when she was willing back in 2006.
Secondly, we may not be able to afford to continue taking exotic holidays - diving or otherwise - for more than a few years after we retire from work. Therefore, I have to plan in such a way so as to allow us to take those land based holidays before we start thinking about tightening our belts a little.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, those land based holidays that we want to do together are of personal interest to me as well as my wife. It is not as though I'll be tagging along behind her and so in a sense, by sticking to my plans, I'll be getting almost the best of both worlds. The places we have in mind include Peru (Machu Picchu & The Inca Trail), Madagascar, Patagonia, the central Asian Silk Route, Hawaii etc. I know some of them have their own diving but once I quit diving, I'll stay quit. I have always planned my life that way - never looking back and wondering "what if........"

I'm a bit of both... I take an annual trip to the St. Lawrence each year, but I also like to go somewhere new each time I go somewhere else.
Right now the kind of dive traveler I am is a too-long-dry one....... no dive plans at all in the immediate future :sad:

My wife does not dive - we rotate.
Last year London - this year Philippines (diving) - next year Italy - following year diving (maybe Bali)
These are "big" trips and by big I mean minimum of two weeks and not on a shoe string budget.
We will still slip in the occasional Cozumel, Bonaire, or Coco View week if a deal comes up that is budget friendly.
