Im a fairly new diver, but i cant believe these kind of people are out there. what kind of scum does it take to attack someone 50Ft. down that could end up killing someone?.

Let's not down play also that this is Hawaii, and in Hawaii there is a long history of natives showing hostility to out-siders/tourists, they even have an name for them I think its Haoles. Go surf a local surf hangout and watch out for the elbows to the face and a pretty open hostility toward you.

If it is not staged, I think this guy needs to go to jail.

Are you serious? Go to jail for taking someones regulator out. You people need to chill. It's not a big deal you just put it back in. In fact, you have two to choose from.
Settle down SCUBA police.

The guy was trying to make a living and was being harassed by the damn enviro-nazi's. This radical approach similar to the Sea Shepherd is not OK. They are out to make headlines to further their agenda and all the sheep fall for it. I guarantee you there is more to the story but you will never hear it. Poor me I was attacked (after provoking) Ban this, ban that.
What do you want the guy to do for a living if they ban his job. Go on welfare?

In what universe does being videoed underwater give someone the right to assault another diver? She would have been within her right to defend herself through the use of deadly force. Of course, after attacking a woman with a camera, he made a hasty departure like the "tough guy" he is. It's not the scuba police he needs to worry about, trust me. I hope they drag him from whatever hole he's hiding in.

Suspicious was the 2 angle shots. Almost like a movie. If real, most definitely assault, and should be prosecuted as such.

Let me clear this up for you: if you're 50' underwater and you even have an objectively reasonable belief that someone is trying to yank your regulator, you're justified in doing whatever you need to do to prevent that from happening - up to and including bang sticking them if you happen to have one handy.

It's NBD if you don't suck in a breath as they yank it, if you don't panic, if a bunch of other things...which means the person having their reg yanked has a reasonable apprehension of the yanking causing death or serious bodily injury. Their being hurt doesn't have to be certain or even the most likely outcome for it to unlawful force justifying a deadly response. Whether the eco-nut was being a douche -- and I have no problems believing they may have been doing just that, to run into a couple collectors in a big ass ocean -- is irrelevant.

Since this has happened once, it can happen again. Time to reevaluate the argument against old-fashioned US Navy style training with instructors ripping regs out of the mouth and shutting off your air. The life an instructor saves may be your own! :)

That's a good start, but it's also clearly time to break out the rubber training knives and the white marking grease :D

She has ID the guy they have just not released his name. She is pressing charges and he will be publicly identified.

Do you know what dive site this happened at?

I don't like Sea Shepherd's tactics but this video doesn't show the victim using their tactics.
