Let NetDoc know so he can forward the info to that House rep he's opened a dialog with about the Dive Flag Laws...

also maybe let the local news know -- maybe they'll do an segment on it especially with mini-season coming up.

The problem with the boaters is that they follow the reef line. They use the color line between the sand and the reef as a navigational highway. They're chatting and drinking beer, completely clueless to their surrounding, just checking the color line once in awhile to make sure they are on course. Everyone that shore dives in S Fl has horror stories of watching the spinning propellers go overhead.

When the aren't in their boat endangering divers with their inattention, they are in their car endangering bicyclists

I'm glad everyone is ok surviving this attempted murder attempt.
I can only wish law enforcement would give this as much attention as someone running around town firing off a gun at random in a wealthy part of town. Of course they won't, but they should.

I got furious just reading this.
I hope someone gets pointed at this thread who is able to identify this boater.

sorry for your misfortune....glad your ok this time........i also dive in LBTS and with them promoting scuba, snorkeling the officials should be more diligent and serious with monitoring these situations.

It wasn't a murder attempt

"Murder is the unlawful killing, with malice aforethought, of another human, and generally this premeditated state of mind distinguishes murder"

Everytime I think about it or tell someone I get infuriated.

So you were or are down here and didn't even say hello? What a wingman!!! Geez

Sorry to hear you got buzzed... I almost always avoid beach diving on the weekends in the summer. Way too many Gilligans out there near the beach! I'm glad you're ok.

Yeah it was a quicky long weekend trip. My dive buddy Patrick aka Bubblehead on SB hauled the our gear down along with the scooters and we did a bunch of 2-3 hr dives at BHB and LBTS. It was nice gearing up on the bed at Windjammer and walking in. :D Wifey got her first ever night dives in as well. :cool2:

We just scootered about a 1/2 mile south into the current, painfully towing my wife (my nands will never forgive me) and drifted back to the reef project area where the numbskull came by and whacked my float. I only had about 20' of line out directly behind me when it happened. I just watched the video and you can hear the boat, then I spin and get tugged up and over, then surface to find my float quite a ways away.

It happens.

Should it happen?
NO!
Of course not.
Will it happen again...
You BETCHA!

To me it is an occupational hazard of diving virtually anywhere from shore in the USA! USA! USA!,
if you do not have a boat above you chasing the dummies off.
This is also one of the reasons the smallest tank I take off the beach is a 130 cubic foot variety.
Stay low......

Chug
Has this happen about once every 5-6 years or so.
