Yipes, just finished a dawn dive on the Liberty wreck (Tulamben) and that'll be the last one. 3 years ago it was placid and serene. I think now they must be doing large group checkout dives for newbies and obnoxious photogs at that hour. Unbelieveably bad behavior shown towards the Bumps from what had to be more than 50 assorted divers. No, didn't see anyone trying to ride one...but I was waiting to see it happen, given all the rudeness being shown.

C'mon, 4 strobes popping away from 3-4' ? As you keep swimming along trying to get what must have been macro eyeball shots? Wisnu had mentioned a week or so ago (late Oct. 2014) he had seen the hoardes but I figured "Oh, that's because it was the weekend." Uh uh. I think it is now an every morning occurance. I suspect for the Bumps sake they will move on eventually, like the schools of Jacks seems to have. I had my camera but only grabbed a couple short viveo clips w/out lights. At that point I was a bit hard pressed to identify with my species.

Hey, I know it's an overcrowed planet. I just didn't think it meant you had to become an inconsiderate Pod Person, out to prove your ego is all that matters, to heck with a creatures well being. (This is especially for you, Camosuit Clown with the 4 strobes popping.)

Whoa. I'm gonna blow right thru my safety stop if I keep ranting. Ok, deep breaths. Slowly, slowly. There, it's returning. I am still on Bali...thankfully. // ww

Bummer. What time of day were you diving?

Oops!! Talk about dyslexic, when I read "bumps sake" I thought at first it was some type of fishy liquor! :)

JohnJ--The Bumpheads move onto the wreck sometime at night (to sleep off the sake?) and begin to stir and move off at dawn. We were in the water by 5:30am but the swarms were already there. Now I'm not trying to say folks shouldn't go see them but what is it about crowds that brings out such bad form? Oh right, crowds bring it out. ("Outta my way Bub, I'm a taxpayer!") Still, while not exactly a "wilderness experience', the Bumpheads displayed a marvelous serenity. // ww

I like 8am dives there, the early morning hordes have left and the day trip hordes have yet to arrive. Better yet, do a 4pm dive there, the light is great and not (usually) many divers

I agree with Mike, mid-morning dives are best and post-3pm dives are great as well. Even better is off-season in January - March/April.

Agreed, you can dive around the hordes thanks to a clever timetable in the morning.

... but the real pain in the neck is nightdiving on the Liberty Slope since this year, I used to be on my own with my guide at 7PM the past years, this year the slope was even more illuminated at night than a Supermall parking lot. No way to fool the hordes... as I am not sure I'd be keen diving from 9PM onwards.

I am glad we got to see those" sake drinking" bump heads with no one around when we were there. All the hordes must have already left as it was around 8:30 am.

Ah, those halcyon days of the 1990s! Not to worry, I'll be there in a fortnight. WW, is the temperature matching your nom de plume?

Naut--Well, the first nom anyway. (The latter nom was a typo that I never noticed for several posts, since I meant to type Wonk, but I never did figure out how to change it w/out signing up again.) I'd have to say 83F is just ducky for me. I hope folks don't think all the diving is somehow crowded. It's not and certainly, as Mike and Charlier mentioned, plenty of ways to avoid those horde folks. For example, a 2 tank dive this morning at Batuniti was flush with froggies and critters of all sorts, it's a good muck site--and there were only 4 other divers there the whole time we were.

Just finished an afternoon dive on the wreck (got in around 4:30pm) and traffic was real light, as in most everyone was on that long ride back to wherever. LDR's new addition is superb, not just for the new bungalows, restauarant and landscaping but the dive setup works very smoothly. Jackie runs a good shop. // ww
