I currently have a Hollis DG03 and it has done me well but I'm looking to upgrade to something a lil easier to read an operate. I'm really attracted to the XDeep Black BT. Now it says this is a bottom timer but it seems to have the same functions as a computer. Can someone elaborate more on this unit? If you don't like the XDeep what do you recommend for <$450?

The xdeep for $450 is just a bottom timer, if you want to make it into a dive computer you have to up grade to the nitrox download, add $$$$. I don't think you'll find much similar to the xdeep in looks (petrel, eon, liquivison etc) for under $500 unless used. In all honesty, if it's time to upgrade, go with the petrel 2 and find the extra $. Well worth it.

If I could afford another $300 for one I would. I don't dive under 60ft very often so I don't really need a computer, a bottom timer would be fine.

It's not the depth, but your dive profile. If your dives are square and you aren't doing multiple dives/day. A bottom timer will do you well. If you do multi-level dives (like diving a wall or reef) and/or are trying to squeeze as many dives/day in as you can on vacation, stick with your DG03

If you don't understand what a BT is, you probably need more education before diving one. That could be training, talking to a diver who knows the difference between a BT and a computer, or my personal favorite for difficult questions like this (Google)...but something, even if you're just diving to 60'.

That being said, if you just want a BT, there's no need to spend $450 for one.

Buy a 20 dollar watch instead and spend the rest on a trip I'd you want to use a timer only

Ok so I obviously shouldn't get the XDeep cause I don't need just a bottom timer, but I don't like the view and interface of my DG03. I can spend about $450 if I get it from DRIS because of my reward points I have saved up so what should I get?

DRIS has the Dive Rite Nitek Q fully unlocked on sale for $500 would this be a good option? Sale ends today so I need to act fast.

I wouldnt. At almost your budget I'd buy this:

heinrichsweikamp

It comes in at around $470 plus around another $40 in shipping. Great company, nice gear.

If stay away from the Nitek Q. First of all, the screen is awful. The refresh rate is such that moving out around while looking at it makes it this big blurry, dizzying mess. Secondly, the software support for it is absolutely miserable. It won't synchronize easily or happily, if at all.

What, specifically, is it about your dg03 that you dislike?
