What do you bring on a boat with you as it relates to "saving a dive"? I was trying to see what others brought on our last dive boat a few weeks ago and I don't recall anyone bringing much more than their equipment and maybe a small dry box (wasn't sure what was in it). I take a dry box with me but usually have our computers, flashlights, compass, etc. in there. I also have a medium sized toolbox that has various spare parts but I didn't think I should be lugging that thing onto the boat.

What do you guys take on the boat w/you?

Thanks in advance. I did a search but the words I'm using are too common to other threads and really couldn't find much.

I'd recommend talking to the local guys on the boats you're diving with. Save a dive needs vary.

My save a dive kit for my local dive spot is an entire second set of equipment and a collection of tools. Elsewhere I've done a few hundred dives where I'll only carry a spare oring. How badly does the dive need saved and what other resources are available on hand?

Regards,
Cameron

As Cameron said, depends on the dive and the boat. Some boats, I know that they routinely have tools and o-rings readily available and often spare gear. On these boats I take spare batteries, bolt snaps, cave line, tie wraps, shears and a few miscellaneous personal items.

Other or unknown boats I have all the above plus a supply of orings and tools.

On shore dives where I don't want to leave anything on the shore I have this...

My kit has changed over the years. When I was working with students I had a spare everything. That has thinned down to spare o-rings (tanks, computer/transmitter, lights), spare batteries for everything, a spare high pressure hose, a spare regulator hose, plugs for my first stage, Allen wrench set, a small Crescent wrench (adjustable spanner), food grade silicone grease, my bible, a copy of the Quran and Torah, a box of crackers, a spare bathing suit, a spare line cutter.
Everything from "my bible" on is my attempt at humor. However I have needed a spare bathing suit before. All of this stuff fits into a small box that Iput in my dive bag.

Cheers - MM

Thanks for the insight. I'm not sure what the boat we went on last had in total. I know they had some o-rings as one of the other divers had a tank o-ring blow and they quickly replaced it. I am not sure they really had a lot of spares in equipment but somebody did have something else malfunction and one of the crew/DM's let them borrow some of their kit.

Going on a different boat next weekend (Aristakat out of Venice Beach, FL for some Megalodon tooth hunting). They're a 6-pack boat so not sure they carry a lot of extras.

Over time I guess I'll gather my own approach to this. I guess I wasn't even sure if most folks carry one on the boat or not really.

I just put some stuff together and basically the things you listed, are what I put together... so I guess maybe I'm on the right track?! Well, except the box of crackers.

I usually chuck a spare mask in my wet box, just in case. O-rings are a must bring, spare straps for fins (if not spare fins). regulators mouth pieces and zip-ties. Zip-ties are the new duct tape, can't not have those. Spare computer batteries/ spare computer. Extra lights. I think more in terms of loaners for most other gear. I won't bring a spare reg, but I know one of my buddies usually has an extra in his car. A simple first aid kit is handy also. I have a basic tool kit in case we need to swap out a hose or other simple repairs. The importance of the dive (cost and/or opportunity) will drive preparations.

Oh! I did forget zip ties. I do carry a spare mouthpiece, fin strap, and mask strap. In the spare mask box is where I carry the spare straps and a bottle of anti-fog. I have saved many dives, mostly, but not all, for other people.
Just the common sense stuff. Oops! Oops! I forgot. Common sense is uncommon.

You'll get many varying replies here. I usually carry a dumbed down plastic bag of very basic stuff and put it in my "carry-on" type dry bag. One thing for sure is a spare mask. My kit is quite more extensive on my solo shore dives (which is probably 98% of my diving). I have used a fair bit of that stuff over the years at one time or another.

Spare mask
Spare mask strap
Spare fin straps (the originals I replaced with spring straps)
O rings
Bungee cord
Cave line
Bolt snap
Batteries for computer and lights
Small tool kit in case
Spare LP hose

When diving dry, I add:
Extra neck/wrist seals
Tool for changing neck seal
Extra suit inflator hose
