Perhaps due to salinity, temperature, currents, and wind?
Could be. Or land subsidence, usually due to ground water removal. Or errors. Given the tidal effects are typically on the order of feet and there are larger cycles around the tides, and I somehow doubt the satellite passes are tide synchronous, the whole idea of trying to determine the accuracy of the ocean mean surface height to an accuracy of a tenth of a mm with a measurement tool has a margin of error of plus or minus 33mm seems somewhat doubtful to me.

It is a paper in a Nature journal. In the game of Nature paper vs your understanding of a thing which is a safer bet as to the facts?

Yes there are complicating factors, yes science is complicated. What would it take for you to believe this paper?

How many locks in the Panama Canal does it take to get a boat from the sea level at one end to the sea level at the other?

You might expect some sort of gradient where you have say a 8000 mile long barrier between two huge bodies of water. And in fact there is about 200mm of difference. It would be a bit different if between Atlantic City and NYC there was a 200mm variation in height of the ocean surface. The lake in the middle is why all the locks, which also, being fresh water, limits the amount of Atlantic and Pacific flora and fauna transfer.

If you have knee problems that preclude using it in non split fins (as @Marie13 does), then training is likely to just make it worse. Flutter (especially with a rigid fin) uses a certain set of muscles whereas frog uses others. Split fins mean that the strain is applied differently so makes flutter available to some that can't otherwise use it.

Marie already knows she will need frog, modified flutter etc so has already said she is going to work on them

I've found modified flutter actually fairly easy. I work on it when I'm doing laps. I used it during the limited penetration dive on my wreck class and other times at the quarry when I've gone through the sunken cabin cruiser. Frog is my primary goal for the winter. I've gotten some help that's gotten me partway there...

There is absolutely nothing better than a vid of yourself. Seriously.

You aren't turning your ankles...

Maybe. I've got a scuba pool practice session next month. Will get video then. Other than that, it's trying to work on it when I do my mile in the pool (3 times a week). At the rate I'm going, I'll have to replace my drysuit sometime next year as I'll have shrunk too much! :D

Depending on the manufacturer, they might alter it instead of forcing you to replace it - definitely the cheaper option I would think.

Update:

Drysuit is up for sale since I've shrunk so much.

Frog kick practice last weekend was quite fruitful. Three hours of solid frog kick practice. And now I'm working on it during my pool laps. I'm now doing 2000 yards (more than a mile) at least 3 times a week.

SM gear has been all set up with the help of my LDS. Will be doing a pool session on just SM before the season starts and taking SDI SM class as early as possible next season.
