Hello to all you SB experts with a fuzzy upper lip. My BH has trouble with a leaky mask due to his mustache. He's tried a variety of ointment and stick type mustache sealants with hit and miss success. He also is diligent trimming especially right under his nose but again no tried and true success.
He recently heard of making your own sealant using 1:1 ratio of coconut oil and beeswax.
Has anyone tried this concoction and did it work?

Thanks a bunch!!
Ann

What made is he using did it seal before the mustache?

I've never had a problem with my man fur causing leaking due to my stache.

Man leaking?:rofl3:
Thanks for the catch was going to change it to mask but I thought man fur would be better. I love smartphone autocorrect so much.

When I was certifying I used chapstick. Worked like a charm. Have since shaved.

First, the mask has to fit. Poor fit, doesn't matter what he does.
Second, success with 'products' will depend very much on the 'bristle factor'. Coarse hairs are tough to seal up with anything. Same with a thick mustache.
Tried pretty much everything. Only thing that works is trimming under the nose or outright shaving. A dive vacation got me to shave for the first time in 30 years. Now I just trim. No one but me seems to notice or care, and for me the trim is invisible in a week.

Only 1 mask has ever fit me really well. I've kept it going for 15 years. If it breaks down or gets lost I'm gonna need therapy.

I haven't had a problem with my mustache, but have had an errant hair on my head, strap not placed properly, and an aggravating hood cause problems. Sometimes it is hard to tell exactly where the issue is. Over the years I have developed a routine to place the mask on my face exactly the same, that checks all the issues I've found.

At first I blamed my mustache for leaks, but found by close attention on putting on my mask properly, I only need to trim well by the nose seal and pick out a good mask.

I just got really good at clearing. Upside down, right side up, side ways, it doesn’t matter. I can clear it. But I do trim under my nose on week long dive trips to lessen the leak.

I completely agree with Bob....if my mask leaks it's not because of my mustache.
