I only step in like this to refute false information. I am myself critical of PADI in a number of areas, and I have been quite outspoken about those areas.
I am a defender of the truth. It bugs me when people make points by saying things that aren't true in order to score attacking points. Sometimes these people are simply mistaken; sometimes they are deliberately lying. It can be hard to tell the difference. I usually simply provide correct information in a friendly way. Many people are happy to get the correct information and thank me for it. If, on the other hand, their primary goal was not to give accurate information but was rather to attack and ridicule, it can get bad. When they happens, they usually dig in and start inventing evidence, scratching and clawing in defense of their initial attack. The really interesting ones come when you provide evidence (say, a direct quote from PADI headquarters) that would convince 99% of a reading population and the person does not accept it while providing no evidence to refute it.
I'm sorry that I feel I have to be that way, but I will step in when people say things that aren't true. I am sorry that you are offended by this.
