So I saw this ad for a kickstarter product called a Scorkel. Basically it is a small refillable tank you breath straight off of. I have seen the Spare Air rescue systems. Could you use a spare air type system when snorkeling to stay down longer. Pros and Cons. Newbie so please don't rip me apart.

While you can use a small tank of compressed air (clean, filtered) to breathe a few breaths from underwater, it adds all the risks of "actual" scuba diving (lung expansion injury particularly) without the safety of adequate training and equipment redundancy which is historically shown to be helpful to dive safely.

For myself I've found if I want a few minutes underwater I enjoy breath hold diving, if I am going to introduce the risks of scuba, I want to be down long enough to enjoy the setup and preparation time.

Regards,
Cameron

The short form answer is: save your money.

A bit longer, it's not feasible to get sufficient pressure via a hand pump and without at least some basic SCUBA training, you're likely to have a pulmonary air embolism when you surface while holding your breath.

try this search in google: site:scubaboard.com scorkel there have been long threads about this scam.

Sigh, the perennial desire to mix freediving and scuba, unfortunately it’s a big NO!

However you (not your kids) and a buddy could use freediving training, and equipment like @MAKO Spearguns sells to do it way, way better.

Holy Moly! I'm speechless. Scary!

There's an old adage about fools and their money that seems very applicable here. Hope he never actually delivers any.
