Using the Garmin Descent Mk1 and MacDive you pretty much get the "geographical dive site recognition" but then you lose starting and ending pressures because it doesn't have AI.

Why would I need to down load the data?
I logged all my dives since day 1. Just read it from the dive computer at the end of the day and wrote the data(max depth and total dive time) in my log book.
To purchase a dedicated cable for the down load? You must be joking!
They get lost, destroyed, forgotten, inconvenient, etc. Now that I switched to electronic and on the cloud, I never have to worry about it, the logbook is safe and always available and very convenient with plenty of information about the dive beyond what I can write in a paper logbook. There is no comparison and no advantage for paper based logbooks at all, none whatsoever. What is wrong with paper and pen? They never FAIL.
No battery is required.

Why I love my Shearwaters: no cable required! I Bluetooth the dive data to my phone and capture GPS coordinates right on the boat and synch to the cloud later when I have Wi-Fi. It is 2019 after allIt's a real time saver especially over the course of 100's of dives. Date, time, depth, bottom time, graph of the dive profile, gas used, temperature.. It's all taken right off your dive computer and pulled right into your logbook.
You know why that cable is expensive? Because it's worth it.
My log books (30+) are safely in my drawer. And I can read them any time if I want to check certain information at home. But I rarely do so because I would rather look forward to my next dive than history. They get lost, destroyed, forgotten, inconvenient, etc. Now that I switched to electronic and on the cloud, I never have to worry about it, the logbook is safe and always available and very convenient with plenty of information about the dive beyond what I can write in a paper logbook.
