We cannot know yet how dealy it is and will be. We do not have the data and in many countries it is just starting. Please correct me if you have any scientific source for this statement.

Geez, I guess you'd better shut down your diving business for good if you're that concerned

Spanish flu and Hong Kong flu, I can think that at the top of my head without needing a scientific source...just those 2 flu's alone killed between 20-50 million people

The worl during the Spanish Flu cannot be compared to the situation 100 years after that. The Hongkong flu maybe as much as 4 million people. Many models showed that without the enormous strict policies this number probably would be the numbers of victims of Covid-19 in Europe only. But, indeed speculation. No complete data yet and it is far from over.

Probably it was closer to 60.000. Estimated Influenza Illnesses, Medical visits, Hospitalizations, and Deaths in the United States — 2017–2018 influenza season | CDC
But still, very bad. But it was not that widely spread all over the world. And in the USA alone until now from 15 deaths 3 months ago up to 110.000 deaths now.

We don't know how widespread it was in 17-18, because there wasn't a spotlight on it like covid-19 has on it now, nor was social media as widespread and used much as today. And there wasn't a trade war with China at that time.

... I'm being serious, not sarcastic. With China's enormous population they did extremely well to contain it. They were prepared for something like this. My respect to China

I am not concerned at all. That would go against my Stoic principles. I do my best to see reality as it is. And that is very difficult indeed at the moment. And from there, with that information, I try to act good. I started this topic because I indeed wonder how he future of dive tourism will look like in future. And I am happy with the many response. I think there will be a future. As much there was a future for sex tourism after HIV. But together we will have to figure out the ins and outs. There might be new ways of teching scuba, other protocols to follow. Based on data. Data which are still far from complete now. And maybe there is a vaccine worldwide available in February 2021 and we will continue business as we used to do.

Seems that Vietnam did the best job.

I am not so afraid of death; more concerned about the consequences of having suffered through the virus. Will everyone recover to their level of health beforehand or not? Some are not and this should be acknowledged. We need to become educated about this too, not only how many die.
