So, I bought a Water Proof Large hood (I have a ton of hair), while it fits ok at the top, it feels like I'm being choked.

Now, I am ordering one for my wife, I took her measurements for a Bare Hood, her forehead, with all her thick hair too, is about 23.25cm, her neck is 13cm. The issue? The size chart shows anywhere between a large and XL for the forehead, but a XS to S for the neck. Given I hate my hood because it chokes me, and she doesn't need ANY distractions or discomfort when she dives, what size option should we get?

Look at K-01 hoods, I felt like I was being choked to death with all the prior hoods I got before I got a K-01.

Of course it is better if you can try them on.

Yeah, we were literally talking about that just before she left, issue is finding a dive shop who has them in stock. I'll look those up for sure. Do you have the same issues with measurement?

Just saw they did customized, SOLD!!!

Yeah I had the same issue, until I saw that one of the dive shops I visit has them in stock. I just went through the pile until I found one that fits the way I like. The neoprene that they use is soft and stretchy so it works better. It is also without the cloth backing on the inside, so it is like a freediver suit, which means it seals better so it stays warmer. So it can work best if you wet the hood before putting it on.

Because Lavacore use Burmese Hill tribe women with the neck rings as models for their sizing of the neck part and 14 year old Asian boys for the body part my hooded vest not only choked me but came up to my bottom lip....so I grabbed a pair of scissors, few snips and over a decade later we are still going strong. Ive never stitched the edges and its never frayed so a DIY fix can work in some cases.

Whoa....

I had the same issue. I measured and then had to go up in a size of Waterproof Hoods. The place I bought it even mentioned they ran small.
