You may disagree, after only a capitalist could have a Tesla fly past Mars.

We may well be misunderstanding each other here, I really don't know.

For some tasks, capitalism is the cheapest and best option for society.
For some tasks, capitalism is the cheapest but not the best option for society
For some tasks, capitalism is neither the cheapest not the best option for society.

IMNSHO, there's no way a government committee could have had a Tesla fly by Mars. Is flying a Tesla by Mars good for society? I really don't know, but it's way cool. Even if Elon Musk is madder that Lewis Carroll's hatter.

Give it twenty or so years before we decide on whether flying a Tesla by Mars is good for society. NASA's lunar program seemed like lunacy (pun definitely intended) at the time, but society's ROI on that program has showed to be way beyond median if you look at the big picture and what kind of technology that came out of it.

Capitalism provides housing, automobiles, food, nearly anything depending on the budget of the individual or their priority of the product or service. Some choose not to buy health insurance some choose to spend money on other things. Life is about weighing risks as a younger healthy person it’s unwise to buy insurance in most cases, when a individual gets to middle age or has chronic conditions then it may make sense to buy insurance.

It seems some Canadians are advocating the same socialistic policy’s for the United States the us has 10x the population of Canada with I assume more cultural diversity. Also Canada has the benefit of having the US on its southern boarder.

Ah yes the "socialist" argument. You have socialist military, police, bridges, ports, roads, sewers, parks, firefighting etc. etc. etc. but socialist health care for some reason I can't fathom is just a bridge too far. Never understood this argument, but it does seem to be convincing for a significant number of people. We had the same arguments when universal heath care was introduced in the late 50's, but the word was "communism" at the time not socialism.

Except a young healthy person with insurance and regular checkups has a far lower rate of chronic conditions or "typical middle age" conditions because they took care of themselves and are less of a cost to the risk pool further down the road lowering the burden on the pool.

Well, that's the point about single-payer healthcare. You pay into the pool when you're young and healthy, and you take out from the pool later. If you expect to take out from the pool only when you need it without paying in in advance, the system collapses. Because what you need is more than what you reasonably can be expected to pay in. Unless you're filthy rich.

Besides, young people also get sick. Granted, not as often as the old 'uns, but if they do and don't have insurance, they're majorly screwed. You're gonna die? Too bad you don't have insurance.

Besides, all numbers show that the total economic burden per health benefit is lower in single-payer systems.
