Not necessarily. The drift diving we do here in South FL air divers must ascend early themselves. The Nitrox divers stay down longer. Not sure if that is how it’s done in Cozumel or not. Regardless your computer needs to be set to your proper mix. I’m sure the OP remembered to do that ... but if not it could have led to the issue.
There was NO nitrox available for the OP on the boat!(Mod edit)
Both he and his guide were on AIR.
What issue are you talking about? Unless you are suggesting that the dive guide's computer was set on nitrox!(Mod edit)

Shame to hear about the quality of the reefs and medical care in Cozumel

No clue why you’re getting so worked up. Exclamation points not required. Regardless of whether the dive guide was using air or Nitrox the OP needed to switch their computer to Air since they were diving air. If you don’t understand why I’m not going to keep arguing with you. My question was for the OP.

That sounds like what @JimBlay alluding to, not resetting your DC on the right gas once you discover it. Diving air profile on Nitrox is OK, but not the other way around (diving Nitrox profile on air).

1. OP knew nitrox was not available and so was his guide.

Need the OP to clarify on this!

Perhaps my bar is low, but I expect poor medical treatment in 3rd world countries. Glad everything turned out for the better.

I would recommend to go for PFO testing. Looks like the physical exertion after last dive caused the PFO to open and caused the bends.
