it says a lot about us !!!

ive rarely been in the ocean outside of scuba diving for at least 15 years now. Especially my last trip to Maui. this is why.

rip to the victim.

Bait fish around, or not. From what I read, this shark attacked from below and did not just take a "sample bite". I have to wonder if this shark has tasted human flesh before....
You mean... it could be the same shark from the last attack 60 years ago?!?

Simple logic would probably conclude that the shark was not hunting humans, but instead, as with all shark attacks on humans, it was a case of mistaken identity. While a tragic mistake, there's no need to demonize the shark (or any sharks) over it.

Humans are not regular shark food. The shark may have seen the diver in a black wetsuit look like normal prey animal such as a seal. If so attacking from below vertically is quite normal.
The video suggested the shark was only (I know "only"...) about 3 meters, or ten feet, long. I'm under the impression that smaller GWS's, especially juveniles, feed on fish. It's possible the vertical attack was intended for the bait ball.

Death is a part of life and his was on video. Some divers have filmed deaths on video as well. Others have had diving incidents recorded and put on social media. Media companies will scour the internet for any details about a person in the news. Death by misadventure.

I reiterate : " it says a lot about us" , social media be buggered [arsebook, tick tack whatever] .

It is very sad, I have been in and on the water when people have died, and it is beyond me why people want to watch this.
This is not fiction on TV or the movies.

Yeah, I'm a lot more apprehensive beng in the surf than I am diving in the open ocean since the surf is where the vast majority of attacks happen. I actually hope to see sharks when I dive.

My sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.

This is such a ridiculous statement. Some sharks eat humans - in certain circumstances. It is not a mistaken identity. Why do you make such a claim? Is it to try to make people "like" sharks? I know several people who have been bitten by sharks, some have been accidental, but others were not.

If someone is swimming in a school of bait that sharks are feeding upon, a person could be bitten without that being the intended target, but again, this is NOT the case in all attacks; to think otherwise is delusional.
