I am looking to do my tec classes 40-45 and I found the dive shop in PHX-AZ sea 2 sea. James Bock Is the instructor for the tec and I wanted to see if any one has had any classes or dealings with him and how did it go?

I have never met this instructor and do not know a blessed thing about him. I do not in general think it is the greatest thing to have an otherwise unknown individual discussed in public. Bad reviews can border on defamation. As is true in libel cases, much can depend upon the degree to which that person is a public figure. If Mr. Bock were the head of an agency or had been involved in a major event, it would be different. Some personal grudge can have an outsized impact on a small time, relatively unknown instructor.

If people have experience and wish to comment, I suggest they do so through a direct message.

100% if they feel better about doing it in a PM I am ok with that!

Go meet him and talk to him. Get educated on what you want. Interview him and if you have the warm and fuzzes take your training. If not, find someone else. I've met instructors i wouldn't train with and not because they were bad instructors based on someone else's opinion, but because our personalities just did not mesh. Some people like passive, some aggressive. Me, I like assertive.

I took tec 40&45 with him and he's excellent.
Feel free to message me if you'd like to talk further.
I do agree with the first reply that this isn't the best forum for reviewing individual instructors. In James' case, we are safe - I have nothing but good things to say about him 😊

Call him and talk to him.

I looked up his web page and it said "James Bock is a New York based actor, musician, and freelance writer." It also said he's working on his first novel. So, in other words, he sounds unemployed. Sounds like you should give him some work.

Agreed. He's always happy to talk with potential students about his classes.
All instructors should be - especially for tech
Absolutely, just signed up for a sidemount course, the instructor called and has texted me multiple times just to get to know each other and go over course standards.

I took my Tec Trimix 65 corse with James Bock. He cares about our dive community and his goal is build up his students. His class will be challenging and you’ll have to earn your tec cert. If you have the right mindset, he will push you to become a better tec diver. If you want to enhance your skills and really learn how to be a safe and successful tec diver them give him a call ☎️.

I recommend James Bock
