Bonaire photos

These were shot with the S90 in the Canon housing, with Inon 28AD wet lens adapter.

I forgot to zoom for the first 3 photos with the UFL-165AD, which were shot at 28mm and had lots of vignetting, so I cropped them. The next two photos were shot with the UFL-165AD at 35mm, are not cropped, and have no vignetting.

The rest of the photos are shot with no external lens. The fish group photo was shot without strobes, and using the manual white balance adjust, turned most of the way to red.

Not a great photo

Actually, this is an excellent composition. I might have cropped it differently in post but it looks good the way it is.

Nice shots.
So when using the UFL-165AD you had the 28AD mount base, then I assume you had an adapter to go from 28AD to AD. Is that correct?

I currently own a UFL-165AD.
I just purchased an S95 and plan on using a canon housing. Assuming Inon comes out with the mount base for it, I was contemplating what to do for lenses.
One option is to sell my UFL-165AD and get the 100 28AD lense from Inon.
Other option is to get the adapter and use the UFL-165AD, which is what it seems like you have done.
Can you comment on the setup.
I see you said you had to zoom to 35mm to get rid of vignetting. Any other words of wisdom?

Thanks

No, I just mount the UFL-165AD directly on the Inon 28AD mount base.

I did have to do one thing, which is put a shim I made between the mount and the front bezel of the camera. The shim was made from thin plastic, 1mm thick. Any thinner than ~0.8mm, and the lens would bottom out on the housing glass. I had to elongate the holes for the screws that hold the bottom Inon piece to the front Inon piece by ~1mm, to compensate for the shim.

It may be that the Inon adapter for the S90 housing will fit the S95, or maybe not. There really isn't much difference in the camera except placement of a couple of buttons, so maybe the bottom/front of the housing stayed the same.

Another way to do it would be to take out the 6 screws that hold the plastic ring on the Inon adapter, and shim between that ring and the metal. That would keep you from having to elongate the other holes as I did. I chose not to do that, since those 6 screws were pretty short anyway, and they would be 1mm less in there. I was afraid they wouldn't be strong enough to hold a large wet lens. I guess if one could find those little screws, 1mm longer, you could shim them and still be as strong as the original.

why do you say that? and what housing did you get?

I have the Ikelite housing, and there are things I really like about it. 1) Depth rating of 200', 2) 67mm threads, 3) works for S90 and S95.

There are three things I like about the Fix that the Ikelite housing doesn't have. 1) access to the back dial, 2) nice optical connector, 3) uses standard 1/4" mounts.

All shot with an s90

Boogs... these are all wonderful. Really inspiring. And your location and available subject matter don't hurt either! ;-)

Thank you Uncle Pug. The s90 is a very capable camera. For serious shooters, I would recommend getting the FIX housing for it because it allows you to switch between wide and macro while underwater. (I chose the s90 over the G11 for this very reason and I've never looked back) Also, the rear control dial is very useful.
