Don't think of it as 400 meters it's really 1/4 mile they should laist it as that. The thought just crossed my mind when you brought up running 2 miles on a quarter mile track.

Here is another thought related to my last post.

You may never in your professional life have to perform a rescue that calls for that level swimming skills and stamina. On the other hand, what if you were unable to perform such a rescue when called upon because you did not have that ability? How would you feel?

To give you a sense of how you might feel, there was a thread a while ago about a fatality in which the DM had let his DM skills in general lapse. (He had not even renewed his insurance.) He was called upon to jump in the water and perform a rescue. In doing so, he made a fundamental mistake that resulted in the death of a diver whose rescue should have been routine. The problem was not directly related to swimming skill and stamina, but it is still along the general idea of letting skills lapse.

The DM committed suicide shortly after.

It's a long thread--you have to read quite a bit of it to get the full story. To sum it up--diver struggles at the surface; DM jumps in to help; DM helps the diver take BCD off, forgetting that the correct order of operations is to take the weight belt off first....
