While I toiled mercilessly at my desk this afternoon, my buddies went to the bridge. Here are a couple interesting finds:

Had just stopped by to share this goofy guy from June. The wife doesn't think it's real. :D

Is that what we're calling it now?

Definitely a molt--don't know what happened previously or post molt, but a nice, soft, white, freshly laundered, little pillow to cuddle with post molt!! Today, we saw another pair of a different species doing some clinging, but they wanted privacy and buried themselves. AND, it was a bit cold--82 and the viz dropped a lot about 15 minutes into the dive on the east.

Yes, there really is a Clownfish...I got this shot of him in the shallows on the west side about 20-ish feet out from the sailboat launching ramp. He was trying to hide out in a concrete block, but it had a good sized crab in residence. I felt bad for the little guy...perhaps a "collector" will rescue him?

Man I cant believe i am missing out on this GEM of a spot for many years. My sister lives in Jupiter and i have been going over their for years looking for spots to dive and snorkle. I am going to be over their this coming thursday 8/16/12 to sunday 8/19/2012. I have a dive planned friday off the boat "Blue Tang". I cant tell you how may times i have said to my self i wounder if BHB would be any good.. that saturday 8/18 i am looking for a spot my sister & nephew can snorkle arround while i am diving. Is there any thing i would need spefic to dive there like a diver blow float with flag or can i just go their and be ok as long as i stay out of the channles for boats. Whats the best time to go. When high tide is coming / or peek high tide or when tide is going out?

babies

These guys are a favorite of mine to shoot no matter where I am..

I keep telling myself that I'm not going to waste any more electrons on them, but still find it hard to pass them up. Ran across a *really* young one in June whose dorsal was only beginning to form. Couldn't manage a good pic of him. On the same dive and nearby, there was another hanging out with a couple of baby cardinals and a largish octo. Still waiting to find my first baby jackknife. I blame Biminitwist. . .

GUILTY!
Braved the madness of Sat afternoon for a great 3 hour dive.
Wasted some time introducing some idiot spearfishing to the FWC and reporting two more goofs collecting or attempting to collect tropicals on the west seawall.
Park ranger handled that and told me after dive if you see anyone doing that tell the lifeguards and they will call them. Weekends really bring out the crazies....
Pictures to follow:

Very busy weekend.
Ran into an old friend Jim Abernathy while he was guiding a group.
Great guy and blast to do trips with.
Saw some unusual critters but no clownfish, lol!
The "wall of eyeballs" picture are damsel fish eggs.....

oh no!!!

Just got home from a whirlwind 24 hours in Key Largo to find my Mac dead. The weekend storms threw all electronics in the house out of whack - even the A/C. I fear I've lost all my photos from the past six years - I won't know for sure until I can hook up my supposed back-up external hard drive to the laptop tomorrow. As sad as I am about losing my dive photos it's losing Irmy's photos that will devastate me. (And those of you who know, know who I'm talking about) It was either the storms or the ghost of the former owner, Gladys.

In a supreme effort to re-find my chi, and in honor of Olympic synchronized swimming, here is a photo (stored elsewhere) from a few weeks back.

A poster named kotik put this on the basic forum, but it really belongs here....BHB has much in common with the marine life at Lembeh, but at least half of the Dive Instructors teaching people at the bridge are TEACHING students to walk on, stand on, and to trash the bottom.
Apparently the money they make from instruction is far more important than caring about the ecology. See this :

I am thinking "many of us" should contact PADI and NAUI and see if they would create "sanctions" where willful violations of common sense ecology are being committed weekly by some of their instructors. How can you blame the open water divers, when the instructors are so ignorant they are teaching the bottom trashing as OK ?
