Police are now investigating a case where a 16-year-old Chinese national died during a scuba diving trip at Wailoaloa Beach in Nadi on Wednesday.

Police say he was rushed to the Lautoka Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Embassy confirms that the Chinese national’s family members have been informed about the incident.

It says they are making arrangements to come to Fiji.

A young Chinese tourist died yesterday following a scuba diving trip at one of the resorts off the Nadi coast.

The young woman had been in the country for three days and was due to fly back home today.

According to sources, the woman had booked into a resort in Nadi and had arranged to spend the day at the offshore island resort.

It is believed that she was learning to scuba dive.

The sources said while she was underwater she became unconscious and was quickly brought to the surface and moved to land where attempts were made to revive her.

Pacific Island Air, based at Nadi Airport, which has helicopters equipped for medical evacuation, was used to bring the young woman to the Lautoka Hospital.

It was unclear whether she was dead on arrival or had died at the hospital.

No comments could be obtained from the island resort or the hotel on the mainland where was staying.

It is believed that attempts were being made to contact the woman’s family in China.

Her name was Pei Yi Li her name in America was Simone, she was sixteen. she went to my school in Chicago as a foreign student. she passed during our spring break.. rest in peace Simone ..
