There have been a few posts mentioning Weda Resort in the last few weeks so I thought people might be interested in this video that I've just put together of a very enjoyable trip there a while ago.

Very nice. Can you elaborate on....

The resort costs and amenities. Diving costs. Drift/currents? How did you get there?

Thanks...

Hi Flybo8,

We visited the resort as part of a package spending 4 days at their Lembeh resort and 9 days in Weda. I can't remember the exact cost but thought it was good value. I think their website Weda Reef & Rainforest Resort - Best Diving and Birding in Halmahera will have prices.

We arrived in Lembeh via Manado and then travelled from Lembeh to Weda in one day. If I remember correctly we took a morning flight from Manado to Ternate where we were met and escorted to the harbour, from there we took a fast ferry boat to Halmahera where we were met again and driven to resort. It was a long day but it was and interesting trip and was well arranged.

It's not a luxury resort (e.g. no air con or swimming pool) but I thought the resort was very comfortable and provided everything we needed and I liked what Rob and Linda have done to make it ecologically sustainable. The best thing for me was its location in the forest and the birdlife around the resort including the possibility of an early morning trip to see Wallace's Standardwing Birds of Paradise.

We did a two-tank dive in the mornings returning to the resort for lunch and then an afternoon dive at one of the closer sites. I don't remember there being much in the way of currents at any of the sites other than a gentle drift. I thought the diving was very good - the corals in particular were pristine and there was good fish life although it wouldn't be the place to go for pelagic action.

Have been there Nov/Dez 16 and it was still as in the video dated from 2014 . I wrote a report , which you find in the search routine under Halmahera or Tobelo.
