    Diving in Lalati, Fiji

I have heard that Kirsti and Paul have moved to a different resort, also. ---------- Post added July 14th, 2013 at 09:05 PM ---------- I wish I had seen your report when you posted it. Certainly sounds like a disappointing trip. I wonder if the difference was our group size was 28, with...

SCUBA Divers: No Sense of Humor..

That's funny! I love a good prank... retribution be damned!

    Ever have a LOL dive?

I don't have a pic with me, but I spotted a starfish on the back of a scorpion fish... I cracked up. How long did the scorpion fish have to lay there for a starfish to climb completely on his back?

    Solo diving

I agree with flots, until you've had something really go south and were able to keep your composure, soloing is risky. That is the only way you will know how prone to panic you are. There is no redundant gear for panic. Diving with a mentor that first 100 or so dives is when you pick up on...

Do you dive with a knife? How about a big knife?

I always carry EMT shears on my BC shoulder harness and a folding knife in a pocket. If I am in an area known for nets and lines, I will add a sheath knife to my calf. Not a Sea Hunt Sword mind you, a blunt tip, serrated blade with a line cutter.

Will a Special Ops SCUBA Master Diver Card make me a badass mofo diver?

Only if you stick the card to your forehead like Blind Man's Bluff Poker. ;) I think you have hit the nail... It does sound like a lot of fun if they don't take themselves too seriously.

    Shark bites her head

This one swam right at my head. I was able to put the camera between us and bend over backward to avoid contact. Maybe there is something to the wireless transmitters attracting sharks.

    Fiji 2012

This Bull Shark got caught trying to swim under the rope. Right after I shot this, he started thrashing about and snapping his jaws. I was afraid he would get a hold of my leg, so I raised the rope as high as I could and he eventually scooted clear of the rope. I had to reach over him to...

This one came right at my head. I put my camera between us and bent over backward, snapping this picture as he past me.

    Flooded 1st Stage

Could be. We were doing a lot of beach dives, it occurred to me that I may have picked up some sand that was holding the exhaust valve open a bit. I have more than 400 dives on this reg, it's been a pretty solid performer.

    Flooded 1st Stage

I put that second on another 1st stage for the remainder of the trip and did not have any problems. I'm not sure where the extra wetness was coming from, unless pulling harder was drawing water past a valve or my lip seal. ---------- Post added April 1st, 2013 at 12:54 PM ---------- I'll...

    Flooded 1st Stage

Not being a regulator tech, I'm not sure why the primary second was breathing wetter, maybe I was drawing water past the exhaust valve because I was having to pull harder for breath. I don't remember it being salty though. For someone who knows, could the water be coming through the LP ports...

    Flooded 1st Stage

While in Bonaire a few weeks ago, on about dive 30, I noticed a change in my regulator sound. I have a Sherwood Oasis which continuously vents a very small amount of gas during normal operation. I could no longer hear this stream of bubbles, so I rolled on my back to do a bubble check and sure...

    Shark bites her head

That is an interesting thought... I have a wireless system and a shark came right at my head during a shark dive in Fiji last year. Didn't spook me because his mouth was closed and sharks were going everywhere, but I put my camera between us and had to bend over backward to avoid contact...

    Things That Almost Bit You

I've had a few of incidents Sea lions hate to be ignored and will pester you by pulling on hoods, snorkels, fins, strobes, and hoses. Especially when the water is colder and the number of divers dwindles, they just get bored and we are such fun to mess with. One time they pulled a buddy's...

    Where did you dive today?

Martini Cove, San Carlos, Mexico. Small craft warning, so we pulled into the cove. Stayed in the shallow end to fam with some new gear before Bonaire... 11 days and a wake up! Water is 61F here, 82F in Bonaire, can hardly wait to lose the neoprene. But for added dramatic effect, I get to...

How far down can YOU go before you need to equalize?

I used to have trouble clearing and felt like I had to blow too hard during a Valsalva Maneuver. I finally found that if I removed my reg and closed my teeth, a regular swallow or Valsalva easily cleared my ears. Now, I usually have to start clearing around 10' and continue until about 50'...

General Questions for first timer to Bonaire

Yeah the hard soles are a good idea, but I really love my big ol' Cressi paddles. I use the insoles all of the time these days. I'm a pretty big guy (6'2"), I think my weight exacerbated the problem. My buck-nothin'-soaking-wet wife doesn't have any problem.

General Questions for first timer to Bonaire

I had a hard time walking on the broken coral beaches with my soft sole boots the first year we went. Getting hard soled boots would have forced me to get larger fins, so I bought the thickest/hardest insoles I could find at my local whatever-mart and put them in my boots. Works great. Be sure...

    Anyone going to Bonaire soon?
