Trip report Utila...#1 a little intro

Been here in Utila since Saturday, and I count a total of 4 bug bites, my husband has none...using Ultrathon deet only in the evenings. So no need for long pants and it's too hot for them anyway! The main thing I wanted to share with the forum is that while diving the Halliburton wreck...

Trip report Utila...#1 a little intro

Hi Robert, thanks for the great report. We are leaving for Utila on Friday, so I'm packing and getting very excited and wondering: ?have you used any Amex traveler's checks, lonely planet says they're accepted "everywhere" but would hate to get stuck with 'em. and of course the eternal...

June 29th Is anyone on Roatan right now?

From an email w/ Cap'n Vern: "I leave Utila at 6:30AM... We arrive in Roatan a little before 11AM." So it's Roatan to Utila 1pm, Utila to Roatan 6:30am.

Well I am sorry for the local economy, but less crowded dive boat will be nice for us. Seen any whale sharks yet?

June 29th Is anyone on Roatan right now?

Do you mean the Galaxy ferry is not running between La Ceiba and Utila because of lack of customers? Do you know if the private charter ferry (Capt. Vern Fine) is making trips? I ask because I'm due to arrive in a few weeks and plan to take either ferry from Roatan to Utila. Thanks

Yes, my husband and I are planning to be in Utila Aug. 8-15 staying at Mango Inn, diving with UDC. It'll be our first time there. We have been diving in Bonaire, Cozumel, and Hawaii, certified in Monterey. Maybe we'll see you there!

    Getting to Utila

Thanks for the advice. I agree about the red-eye flight plus boat trip, which is why I decided to spend a night in Houston in order to arrive rested on the noon flight to Roatan. The additional flights just added too much expense, so we are regarding the boat trip (whether it turns out to be...

    Getting to Utila

Just to share info with the board, I did hear from Capt. Vern Fine via email and he said he leaves Roatan at 1pm, arriving in Utila at 4pm (all times approximate!) every day, so we can connect as long as our 12:13 Continental flight isn't late! Going back from Utila to Roatan he leaves at 6am...

    Getting to Utila

Thanks, this is basically the info that I've gleaned from online research. It seems like we'll have to either: spend a night in Houston or San Pedro Sula, fly redeye which really makes me ill, or spend a precious vacation day on ferries. Seems strange that there isn't a regular ferry from Roatan...

    Getting to Utila

Hi and sorry if this question has been answered before, I couldn't find info I need. I'm planning my first trip to Utila in August 2009 from SF California. I usually fly Continental to the Caribbean and would like to use them so I can keep earning miles. They only fly to Roatan or SAP. Flights...
