Did Kayak dive off Golden Beach yesterday... (sorry for late post).... 2 dives in around 10 ... back by 2:30... Viz was great for first 15 feet down... from 20 to 28 ft mark... varied.... 4 to 8 feet. Couple of pocket of silt dropped it down. Water temp was 72 on my computer. Good dive...
Noticed some maintained NE winds and relatively calm seas on the forecast page I watch... Anyone one been out or Magic8 Ball predictions for this weekend (not sure I want to do the cold water, but if the viz is there I can be a big boy and give it a try!).
Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving/...
Dive from Saturday... on Kayak... 3 tanks.... worried the fossil beds would have been picked over... tried some new locations/ones I haven't hit in a time. Very happy! 11 partial/complete megs, one make, nice Hemi, core of a whale tooth and the "usual smalls" :) If the tip on the large one...
Golden Beach on Kayak...
10:30 to 2:30 (2 dives)
Seas flat
Wind calm
I hit water temp of 62 at lowest point.
Viz 8-10.... Viz and silt heavier going north (Alhambra). At one point was in 5 inches of silt for a time. But then located a nice spot with minimal to no silt... More Golden...
Been a few months since i have been out.... saw NE winds coming up... anyone been out lately, thoughts on if conditions might be good later this week/weekend. Thank you in advance for response!
Did 3 dives Sunday off Kayak (Golden Beach area/North of Service Club). (10:30-4pm) Viz was highly variable. Some places 3-5 others 8-10. Just depended on silt in area. Waves about 1 ft, moderate winds (10 or less), depth 28 ft. Found a nice area which produced some fairly intact Megs...
Really nice dive day!
Did some kayak diving.... Overall conditions:
Morning hours seas 1ft or less. Picked up to a couple 1-2 ft sets in afternoon. Winds out of NW(?). :)
Water temp was 77
Overall viz conditions: Off Golden Beach (about 1/2 mile (plus) out) viz was 7-10ft with some areas...
agree with 2th diver... the way (I think most) tell the manatee bones from other bones is they have a very dense nature (no marrow holes... the dotting effect). If it had more signs of marrow on the interior I would say it could be horse, but agree Manatee. Thanks for post on viz ... I hoping...
I yak dive off Alhambra... too far to swim... however, when I was shore diving I found some nice megs. I never really had much luck straight out (from the beach path). Rather there is a patch on the other side of the blocks (North of the path... maybe 200 feet down and straight out?). Then...
FINALLY made it out...
3 dives on the kayak...
First two were out in the "traditional bone yard" off Golden Beach area. Flat. Sunny... COLD... Wish I had the 60 reported earlier... computer hit 57 for a time (but remember was out further and deeper (28 I think I hit)). Viz was good (esp...
Silent board.... :) Thinking of going out tomorrow... anyone consult the Magic 8 Ball? Or better yet anyone been diving today? Thank you in advance! Enjoy the Journey!
Finds from today... been too long! Thank you for leaving some for me! :)
As to conditions:
Kayak dive off Golden Beach area (between Alhambra and Service Club for most part).
Water temp : 70 ... really cold 70 considering no sun!
Waves: 1 ft or less
Viz... OUT FURTHER was AWESOME... up to...
Contrary to rumor I didn't get eaten... back on diving/board... been months. Any updates on things? Have been seeing some posts. Curious about if a 5mil is needed / 3mm or nothing :) Also seeing strong NE winds... how is that kicking the viz? Normally NE is good, but 20+ ??? Let me know...
Sunday: Yak diving in boneyard (about 1/2 to mile? out). Great Viz... 10-15 for the most part. Winds calm in afternoon, but by 2 they were picking up a bit (noticed it on my kayak back at least). Seas 1 ft or so. Dive computer needed battery so all I have to report. I did do the Alhambra...
8/23/2013
Yak diving... Started around Service Club about 1/4 to 3/4 mile out (remember on yak so I can move frequently) ... Viz 8-10. Waters 1 ft or so. Water temp 84. Some "whale snot" but overall good dive. Did the boneyard after this and conditions were about the same. No Jellies...
