    New Cobalt 2

Ron, I wanted to just take a moment to thank you for being so transparent and honest. It's so refreshing to see that in the Dive world. I too, have been horrified, at the crappy interfaces on dive gear. I say that from the standpoint of someone with 20 years of IT experience. Currently an...

    LGBTQ Divers?

Most divers are pretty quiet in the water. That's a good thing. On the boat and between dives are where it can be annoying or uncomfortable. Nothing like people cracking "fag" jokes because they don't realize you are gay. It's also pretty annoying to listen to guys try to act macho and talk...

    Canon SLR filters?

Rich, I had not considered that. :) I do know how to set a manual WB though. I have a slate for that as a matter of fact. It is an awesome camera and I'm diving it in Cozumel in Aug. :) Had to practically mortgage the dog to afford it.... but it will be worth it. I have a 17-40 f/4...

Near-newby question: should I upgrade camera&housing or add a strobe?

Actually I think I go this post pretty well. He has a G9 and a 5d MkII. I told him he wouldn't be happy with his G9 if he is used to a 5d Mk ii. I know I wasn't. The G9 is slow, has high noise, and has a small lens. If you like that great, but generally people who own nice camera gear...

Near-newby question: should I upgrade camera&housing or add a strobe?

I disagree. If you own a 5d and a 5d Mk ii you are more heavily invested than most scuba photographers. Money doesn't make you a good photographer though.... but the company you keep suggests you understand the glass and sensors. A G9 is a nice point and shoot... but it's exactly that. It's...

    Canon SLR filters?

On my last trip I experimented with natural light photography, basically using a ikelite color correcting filter and no strobe. It worked extremely well and produced good shots with few issues. I was hoping to go that route again on my next trip.

    Canon SLR filters?

I just made the leap to a SLR for my dive photography. When I was using a point and shoot I started using a color correction filter and really liked the results. What are my options for color correcting on a SLR? Does someone make a filter that is similar to what Ikelite uses?

Canon 5D II vs 7D for underwater photography & Cinematography

One of the major factors for me was the field of view. Here is a great shot that illustrates what FOV can do. 17 mm lens, 5d Mk ii, F4.0 _MG_7806.jpg | Flickr - Photo Sharing! Boat is 27 feet LOA and I'm about 4 feet from the boat. A similar shot with the full boat, same lens, EOS 40D...

Canon 5D II vs 7D for underwater photography & Cinematography

Just to update, I wound up buying a 5d Mk ii. Absolutely stunning camera. One major difference between the T2i and 5d is the color gamut. The 5dii sees about 3x the number of colors as any of the other EOS under it including the 7d. What this means to me is that I get more subtle details...

If you enjoy reading creative writing..... 5D Mark III « Canon Rumors You can see what the lottery thinks the 5d mark iii will be. There are rumored to be some trial units in the wild but you know Elvis is rumored to ride Manta Rays in Madonna's swimming pool..... so obviously not all rumors...

Canonrumors.com is suggesting something mid to late year for the 5d3 and a modest jump in MP with the 7d focus system. The only question at that point is if they can solve the overheating issue that seems to plague the 7d. I've looked at plenty of comparison shots and the camera are very...

Optical Ocean Tray and Handle $60

I have a very nice, simple, rugged handle and tray. Purchased from Optical Ocean and used for about 9 months with a stock Canon G9 Housing. I upgraded to an Ikelite housing and this is surplus for me. Great tray though. Similar to: Modular Set 1 - Trays, Arms, Handles & Clamps - Optical...

Great advice.... and the answer is yes, I can spot the difference. Above land I shoot an EOS 40D. There really is no comparison between the G9 and the 40D. I'm happy with my shots for the G-9 and feel like my next leap is to improve the glass and sensor that are involved. There is a...

Question on strobe arm options for Canon G10 OEM housing

The add-on filter. Well worth the $60. It puts red back into the image and the images look fantastic. The "underwater" setting is not really that great. I always shoot RAW and then adjust if needed. The color correcting filter makes the adjusting optional instead of mandatory.

@dhaas: Nice shots... thank you for posting. I think where the 7d really performs is it's focus system. Indeed, the focus system is the reason I would buy that camera if I was going aps-c. It should also be noted that it has some very nice video settings including 50/60 fps for doing slow...

What is your take on the dreaded overtemp warning? My take on it was that Canon screwed up... and that the camera would be handicapped for video use. I usually shoot stills, but if I want to shoot video I don't want it to turn off on me. Also are you using EF lenses? I keep coming back to...

    dSLR Upgrade Decisions

Great comments Tony! As for the lenses you are correct. The catch is I already have EF lenses.... so really using a 7d or 60d throws away 40% of my lens. Underwater, we are shooting in the dark with a preference for wide angle.... so narrowing the field of view seems like a waste. The...

I have been reading that the 7d has issues with overheating. Seeing as I live in Texas and frequently do photography outdoors, that is a problem. I'm also concerned about heat build up during a dive. The 60d and the 7d are essentially the same with the 7d having a better focus system. While...
