What do you or your lady friends use as BCD and regulators please?

The squeeze issue is why my wife got a back inflate BCD. She is quite small and there just isn't much room to inflate a normal jacket style BCD on a small person. It still has the cummerbund and all the straps any other BCD would have, it just doesn't inflate around the torso, but on the...

What is the best full face mask (FFM)?

I haven't used any FFM yet but hope to someday. From what I have read the OTC Guardian and the AGA are considered very good. The Neptune Space looks nice, but I am not sure if it is. As for your integrated safe second, I think that is simply incompatible with using a FFM. With the integrated...

    Waterproof zipper

Tizip is quite new. Bare is starting to use them on all their drysuits and semidrys in the last year or so. I have one on my new Bare SB drysuit. I also have one on my peak uk kayak drysuit. The tizip is amazingly flexible (far more than any other drysuit zipper I have ever seen) and much...

    drysuit boots vs socks

I got neoprene socks and rock boots for my drysuit (which will be going in the water for the first time tomorrow). it seems to be what everyone around here recommends if you ever do shore dives.

Valve shutdown cycle in a freakin' Bare CD4

Whites Fusion drysuit. It is a specific model that came out about 3 or 4 years ago. It is very very flexible. It's a big human shaped bag with a stretchy suit Velcro'd over it to keep it streamlined. Neat concept. I think in Europe the Fusion is sold by ScubaPro. It is not a trilam, at...

Learn me on drysuit ring systems

-Manufacturer: Northern Diver -Model name: Dry Glove System V2 -Approximate price: $170 CDN (much cheaper in the UK) -Suitable for large hands? Suitable for small hands? Can handle very large hands easily. -Are the rings bulky? A bit, but I don't think it's that bulky. -Third party (cheap)...

HP v Lp steel and DIN v yoke

HP tanks in north america tend to be 3442psi which is 230bar, so they don't require a 7 thread DIN. Yolk and 5 thread DIN are both rated for 230bar use. Some parts of the world have 4500psi tanks which require 7 thread 300bar DIN. The HP steels with 3442psi and convertible valves are very...

Bulletproof reg with a design that's been around forever?

How many decades has the Odin been around now? :D I use an Apeks myself, but Posiedon was being considered.

Please help me select a semi dry suit.

I have never used a semi dry but certainly Bare has an 8/7mm with a dry zip. Regular zippers are certainly a large cause of water getting in and out of a wetsuit, so it might help. I personally have used a bare arctic 7mm full + 7mm hooded vest, and been comfortable in southern Ontario diving...

    Double steels with wetsuit

I just did the PADI dry suit course. It stated that a drysuit doesn't have sufficient buoyancy to lift most doubles rigs and hence is NOT a backup for such use. For a single tank you should be properly weighted so that at most you have to drop a bit of weight to have enough buoyancy. So at...

Which steel tanks are good and bad?

230bar DIN is just fine for 3440psi HP steel tanks. The parts of the world that run 4000 or 4500psi tanks require 300bar DIN. Yolk is fine for 230bar as well of course. I don't have any tanks yet, but the best tank I ever dove with was a friends HP100. Best buoyancy characteristics I have...

Rear Inflate vs. Jacket for Newbies?

I like my Bare Voodoo which is back inflate but at the surface also has the ability to inflate a bit on the sides (not to be used underwater). So the best of both options.

Dive knives and back inflation bcds

Back inflate seems to really be gaining popularity. It seems every brand has at least one back inflate model now. I switched to one myself last year, and my wife's only BC she has ever owned is back inflate since it was the only way she didn't get squashed when the BC was inflated (a common...

    regulator freezing up

We were taught how to breathe from a free flowing reg in the pool for OW. Maybe that's because it can be cold up here. Or maybe it's just a good idea to know.

    renting regs on vacation

I bought my own reg because everywhere I have rented from seem to use sherwood brut for rentals. They are reliable and pretty much indestructible, but boy are they awful breathing regs which I really hate. So I now have an XTX200 of my own, and it sure is a lot better breathing at depth. No...

If you had to choose an insta-buddy between...

I will take brains over looks any time, and of the list I think she is the best bet. Besides I have seen plenty of guys in wet and/or drysuits there were not a pretty sight. It's not that important. Of course you don't have to go diving. :)

    My Drysuit's melting!!!!!!!!!!!

When you say it is in the closet of your office, what is in that office? Remember ozone is bad for latex. Photo copiers and laser printers generate a lot of ozone. If you have either of those in your office, then find another place for your drysuit.

    Tank pressure

The DIN connector is 7 thread 300BAR, so around 4500psi. The yolk connector is of course max 232BAR, which is 3442 psi or something close to that. Whatever steel HP tanks tend to be at.
