    Not exactly a diving question

Maui Ocean Center could be considered a land trip, though probably not a dry land trip. And the start of whale season probably counts as a water activity too. A visit to the winery maybe? Touring pineapple fields? Coffee tour and tasting isnt quite what it is on the other islands, but its...

Does the rescue class need to include HIKING??

I asked about it because they were "rescued" by a hiker. But here is more of the story in depth, with some reformatting to remove double spaced sentences: ------------------------------------ Divers lucky to be alive after strong current pulls them out to sea By Kanoe Gibson Updated: Thursday...

What am I doing wrong? Buoyancy problems?

Sorry for the delayed response, but How? I use that excuse(for lack of a better word) for putting my tank low.

Camera lost in 2007 off Maui found in Taiwan

Great ad campaign for whoever made the housing.:dork2: Also, would it be unacceptable for a mod to link to this thread in a more trafficked forum, like basic scuba. Its unlikely that the owner would be browsing Hawaii, or even Lost and Found hoping for news about a wayward camera from 5 years...

    snorkeling boats

slight hijack: Do snorkel/scuba boats in Hawaii have two drop areas or do they go to areas where both can be enjoyed (i.e. shallow)? The boat dives that I have been on would have been a bit less enjoyable if I had to watch from 60+ feet above. :zen:

Help Protect the Giant Pacific Octopus - Sign the petition

Is there a way to sign the first part and sign against the second? It makes me think that their concerns (sometimes not stated in the best way) over at spearboard could be justified... :zen:

    degrees of separation

How many degrees of separation do you think the worldwide scuba community has? They say that scuba is a good way to meet new people and it seems to be true, and they also say that the whole world is only separated by around 6 degrees of separation, so scuba is definitely less than that. My...

    Olympic Scuba Diving

The best competion sport related to diving is not scuba; it is free diving. Off or on scuba, spearfishing at targets could work. On scuba, long distance racing (you only get one tank!) could be done, and probably biathlon could be interesting if you wanted to add in a speargun. :zen:

If you could only have one tank, what would it be?

If I could have (and not buy) one tank, I would choose for it to be a pure platinum 150. Nah, that would be greedy, 120. I would stick it on my mantle as the centerpiece and continue to rent at my destination. :D :zen:

    Accident analysis during AOW?

I kind of liked the "...and you could die" approach I received, especially since it was usually followed by the "...but here are the physics explained and training you need so you dont." Of course, in a short OW class, none of those could be mastered, but it did get me curious to learn more. :zen:

Rescue Course -- Should it be changed?

Its a cost-benefit analysis of probable time used vs probable time saved right? If the boat is near, then the time saved would likely not be enough to offset time used. If the boat and crew was RIGHT there, then maybe forget about everything and just get them on board for better breaths and...

Rescue Course -- Should it be changed?

I have never tried with someone actually unconcious. But on the surface and with both hands, it seems easier. The reason I am saying both hands is because I am saying to actually drag them around by the head while squishing their jaw shut. But again, never tried it on someone actually unconcious...

Calling a dive on your buddies behalf?

Professional Dive Boat - EPIC FAIL

One very important thing I can learn from this thread is whether or not a plumeria lei is positively or negatively buoyant. And how does it affect your trim? :rofl3: :zen:

Rescue Course -- Should it be changed?

Hmmm. For nearshore or a close boat: 2 or 3 breaths to make a possible drowning victim release a laryngospasm(which to my limited knowledge almost always occurs), then swim as fast as possible without endangering self towards nearest hard surface, stripping gear as you go, and begin CPR once...
