I am sorry. I have the cable for the download link. I am going to call Aqualung tomorrow and see if there is anything that can be done online although my LDS has already said they will send me a new unit to where I will be diving. Thanks for your help and thoughts. I will post whatever I find...
I have the quick release cable. When I checked my software (I think when I was using DiverLog) it said I had the most current version. I will try soaking while pressurized and see what happens. Others have said to blow sensor with compressed air (the opposite of what you suggested) but I have...
Can you update me as I have the same issues and live in Mexico so getting it serviced is a pain. Is there an online update I can do to the unit to see if that fixes the problem?
I have a 4 month old i550. I have 18 dives with it. Noticed after last dive (3 weeks ago) that it seemed to take a long time to turn off but I didn't pay much attention to it until I went to test my gear yesterday before leaving on a two week dive trip (in a week) and found the unit dead. The...
You should NOT have problems breathing either above or in water with a full face snorkel mask IF you have a good mask. While some of the inferior, imitation masks look the same as better quality masks (such as the Ocean Reef ARIA or its sister product licensed to HEAD), many do not allow air to...
I have a business in Cancun-to-Cozumel that rents Ocean Reef Full Face Snorkel Masks. During peak season we rent hundreds of times a month. Many of the rentals result in sales. We have never had any problems at all similar to those described in this article. But it is important to note that...
DO NOT send a check. Most shops want a 20% deposit by credit card and the balance by cash on the day of the trip. Bonnie at SeaHawk is simply great. Try reaching her with WhatsApp as that is what everyone in Mexico uses to communicate. They very rarely respond to emails. Or give her a call...
DoctorMike. I have been renting Ocean Reef Full Face snorkeling masks in the Cozumel to Cancun area for over a year and we have rented these masks hundreds of times. If you look under the Disabled Divers community on ScubaBoard you will see two stories I have posted about disabled people (one...
Bill: I am pushing 66 and 3 years ago I had 3 vertebrae in my neck fused. I was diving 90 days later but my doc said no giant strides or walking with the tank on my back for 6 months. I would tell this to the boat crew so they knew my condition. When we reached the dive site I would jump into...
Try using an Ocean Reef Full Face Snorkel Mask. They are a lot better for snorkeling than a regular mask and snorkel. They don't fog up and they don't leak. Don't get a knock-off that will be less expensive. Look for the Ocean Reef ARIA brand or the licensed version to HEAD. If you are in...
Stan Waterman, one of the greatest underwater photographers ever, dove until he was 92. I am 65, keep myself in good shape but I take cholesterol meds and have had neck surgery and I still get in over 100 dives a year. After neck surgery I could not carry the tank on my back or do a Giant...
The question of liability depends upon where you were. In the US you can sue almost anyone remotely related to the event: the instructor, the dive shop, the cruise ship, etc. In Mexico (where I live) it is almost impossible to sue anyone because their liability laws basically say, "what could...
Check with Rainbow Reef. They are the biggest in the area and bigger than most other shops in the US. I think they are #1 or #2 annually in most PADI certifications.
I do career days in public schools and I have found that simply bringing a tank, BCD, reg and wetsuit are all I need to get a great discussion going. I talk first about our need to sink so we put on a 45 pound tank on our back. That takes us down (gravity). Now we need to float so the BCD was...
Mary: The MUSA that I am familiar with is near Isla Mujeres, not Cozumel. I don't believe there is a MUSA (Museum for Underwater Sculpture and Art) at Cozumel. You would need to take a bus or rent a car to get from PdC to Cancun and either hook up with a dive shop in Cancun or ferry over to...
I work with many of the shops on Isla. My two preferred shops (where I take tourists and groups) are SeaHawk Divers and Mexico Divers. Both are very good and I have friends who work at both. If you go to them please tell them that ScubaBob recommended them and hopefully they will treat you well.
I work with many of the dive shops on Isla and I think Bonnie and Ariel at SeaHawk are one of the best operators in the area. I highly recommend them and tell them that ScubaBob sent you. Mexico Divers is also very good but overall I tend to put groups and friends with Seahawk.
