The ocean access is very shallow and there is a very shallow reef right offshore. I don't think it would be worth trying to get a boat in there but the open ocean is just to the left in this picture. You could anchor outside on a calm day and wade through the flats. You can drive a car right...
That page has just enough limited information to get a novice diver in trouble. The current is manageable when you are near the island but once you get far enough away from the island you will find their description of "very strong current" to be a serious understatement unless you are diving...
I believe that smokey is Apep and Jacob is Ra (sun-god). Apep was viewed as the greatest enemy of Ra. Under the statue where Jacob was killed there was a tapestry hanging which depicted the Sun disc overhead and Egyptians worshiping the sun so there is a strong association with Ra or Sobek-Ra...
There are lots of clues that support this. Assuming he is Apep, you can draw conclusions about what the island is, and also who Jacob, John Locke, and Richard are too.
There is a blue hole in Lucayan National Park. Not sure if you can snorkel in it though. I read somewhere that long ago they found bones in it that were thought to be from the Taino Indians.
Are those the Pitons of St. Lucia in your Avatar?
It's funny you should ask about that. That record was actually broken by one of my good friends and freediving buddies Tony. The record is 139M. Here is the list you are looking for.
The Alien has the softest skirt that I have seen which I think helps it to mold to your face and seal effectively. The DBG looks like it has the exact same skirt as the Sphera which fits just about everyone I know that has tried it. If I had to venture a guess I would think the odds are in...
I haven't tried the DBG but I think the Alien is a great mask. Next to the sphera, its the most comfortable and best fitting mask that I have used. I've tried quite a few low volume masks and the Alien is my favorite. Whether or not they will work for you will depend on how they fit. If it...
Cool video! I recognize the wreck. It's the Donal G. McAllister. It's one of my favorite freediving wrecks. We took the scooters there too a couple of times last year :D
Thanks for all the info guys. My wife has been traveling there on business so I am tagging along for fun. There has been a slight change in the itinerary... we are now going to Saint Thomas and Saint John. Please keep the posts coming though because she will be going there often and Saint...
I have the option to dive on either St. Thomas or St. Croix so I would like to know which one has better diving?
Also, if anyone could recommend specific dives and charter boats that would be great!
I need to book this trip ASAP so any help would be appreaciated.
Thanks in advance!
I think you are on the right track looking at Cat Island and San Salvador, but as DCBC mentioned, don't exclude Long Island which is also in the same general area. Long Island has it all, good diving, good food, Stella Maris will work with you with or without an all inclusive package. There...
The Southern end of the wreck (Anchor & Plaque & some wreckage over the sand) is between the 4th and 5th. The bulk of the wreckage is North of the 5th bouy. I would tie up on the 5th or 6th bouy.
On the drawing that you posted bouy #3 should read #5, bouy #4 should read #6.
