    BC Inflator Hose Won't Disconnect

Soaking in white vinegar... a good rinse in fresh water... drying it with compressed air... and give it a few drops of WD40... and in most cases it glides again smoothly.

    A buddy with no Octo?

Depends on where you draw the line wrt "recreational"... if this implies dives within the NDL, or with only 5mins or so real decompression stops, and without physical overhead conditions, I don't care whatsoever if my buddy has an octo or not, so YES, I'll dive with him... I'm diving myself...

To Nitrox or not to Nitrox: that is the question

Just plain curiosity... do you do a lot of deco dives ? A lot of dives in the 30m/100ft range ? A lot of dives of 60 to 120mins ? A lot of dives in water temperatures in the below 10C (below 50F) range ? Do you do a lot of dives with 7mm exposure suits ? Do you do a lot of dives where you have...

SAC Rate and the effects of bottom temperature?

My SAC definitely varies over the year as a function of water temperature ! Mid summer, when the sea water is at a mild and comfortable 21C (70F) my SAC drops down to the 14 liter/min range... and in autumn when the water temperature reaches the 10C (50F) level the SAC already goes up to the...

How to secure a 7 foot hose ?

I simply took a tiewrap to hold the loops together... and a nail in the wall... and my LH is now perfectly secured to the wall in my basement... it sits great over there... :14: btw... I don't do deep cave dives, nor deep wreck penetrations... just regular dives, simple wreck dives, deco...

    thread sizes on reg?

Several years ago I purchased a dedicated IP manometer which simply clicks onto the inflator hose... so no screwing/unscrewing... simply 'click'. It did cost about USD25 and it's soooooooooooo handy... ;)

    Which rubber belt? Wire buckle?

See also discussion items #3 and #12 in http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=166537 ... works already for "ages" (since 1988) without any problems... carries 9kg of weights (about 20lbs)... fits perfectly for both my wetsuit as well as my drysuit... no loose end... fast release...

Does anyone else give the okay sign?

Funny discussion ! So... NO... I/we don't do this, unless the crew of the boat or the dive leader explicitly asked for it during the briefing... In general we do assume we're diving with people who know how to dive... and also underwater you're not just telling all the time you're OK just like...

Please help to identify this object

I still don't now for 100% sure... and yes, it's still a genuine quest... This question was also posted on other discussion boards and it seems my posting #33 and #21 make sense... a kind of carrying/support line which you can fix somewhere at the ends by making use of the end loops (on both...

    Mares Abyss+Rebel+good/bad things

I used to dive for 13 years with SP regs... and then I switched over to MR22/Abyss (purchased it 2nd hand on eBay for about USD150)... and for the last 700+ dives this reg is serving me extremely well, down to depths below -50m without any problem whatsoever, water temperatures going down to 1C...

Make sure you breath in when you check your SPG

Grin... women and opening/closing valves (or bottles or jars or whatever with a screwthing...), it's so damn easy however... it is ALWAYS in the OTHER direction... :14:

    B2 swivel qualify for DIR?

No...standardisation undoubtly is a great thing which everyone should pursue ! But what I'm saying is that standardisation is of no big use when someone forgot his reg... or, as we do a lot, when you're diving in tidal waters and have to stick to the tides and right at the water side one of...

    B2 swivel qualify for DIR?

That's a most typically (ab)used non-argument... ;) If I go diving, I have a complete spare reg with me in the car... because in a lot of cases at the dive site it did/does occur that someone of our group, or other divers at the dive site, did forget his reg at home and/or someone has a problem...

Painting your Fins - Anyone Ever Try This?

Actually, just stick to your yellow stuff, your buddies will be most grateful for it, especially in low-viz (1 to 5' or less) conditions! In the past when I was diving with black JetFins I used to paint (with a regular spray paint) the bottom of my fins yellow such that my buddies could spot me...

    Instructors as role models

Nice discussion... but funny one too... :crafty: Don't forget an instructor is also a human being, (s)he not God... and actually his only task/role/responsibility is teaching people how to dive and how not to dive, being responsible for a group of less experienced divers, etc. etc. etc. ... and...

    Suunto Mosquito: verdict?

I'm using a Mosquito as my backup dive computer (next to my standard Aladin Air). It's great, it's compact, indeed if you're in the 50 age time frame the characters are a bit on the small side for good reading but up to now it's still OK, because of the watch-size it's utterly convenient to take...

    Technical Bcd question

Great if it would be that simple! Indeed, if you're properly trimmed you're floating horizontally underwater. But at the surface, with your BCD/wing inflated, things might/will be different! If you're floating horizontally at the surface, with a BCD your (heavy) tank will be out of the water...
