    Gotta have a compass???

I dive in viz anywhere from 5' to 100' + and always carry a compass. If for no other reason, It gives you peace of mind and keeps the DMs from giving you a hard time. I try to always keep situational awareness by referring to my wrist-mounted SK-7 (DSS), which I use on the top of my hand. That...

Has anyone ever found any railroad related items?

I was told that a steam locomotive, cars and steam shovel are at the bottom of Lake Arrowhead, CA. They were abandoned in the early 1900s after the lake dam was completed. Locals believe they rest at about 150 to 180 feet. One local diver claims he caught a glimpse of the wreckage but it is...

Maui here we come! April 12-19

I just got back from Maui and dove twice with LD. My experience with them was ***1/2. My only complaint (which isn't their fault) is that most of the divers were not that experienced. All four dives were cut short by the DM giving us the double thumbs-up only after 45 minutes at Mala Wharf...

Is there something weird going on?

Nearly all the users avatars are He-Man? Something wrong, do I need to change a setting or is it just April Fools and will go back to normal?

    HP fills

Very true. Sometimes I need quick fills between dives. The shops with water tank filling stations do a better job. I also ask for a 10% overfill, which puts me at the proper working pressure by the time i hit the water

    HP fills

My persoanl experience is most shops do "quick fills" on my HP (3442 psi) tank . By the time I pick it up, the pressure is at or below 3000--sometimes 2,700 psi. The shops that do HP fills and do fills in water, typically fill to to at least 3400 to 3500. I've found the smaller LDSs do a better...

a question to those who use Worthington 100

I recently went from an AL80 to a Faber Stl 100. I dropped 6lbs of lead. I weigh 160 lbs, I wear a 7mil full suit with a 5mil hooded vest. Total lead: 14lbs. I used to wear 20lbs. Just for kicks, tomorrow I’m dropping another 2 lbs and testing my buoyancy at 250 psi at 15 feet.

Northern Channel Islands out of Ventura

I just dove Anacapa last Sunday (1/14/07). Surface temps were about 57 degrees and 55 degrees at 60fsw. I wore a full 7mil and a 5mil hooded vest. Not toasty but never "cold." The coldest I got was on deck of the Spectre; air temps were in the 50s... Sunny but chilly!

How deep have you gone and why ?

Last night: shore, night dive: 135' and not much to see but lots of sand and a playful seal. We did it for the "badge of honor" (or stupidity). Either one, we can at least both say, "I've been there and done that."

    any diveable sites today?

I stopped by Vets at noon today. Wind was high and waves about 3 feet. Not to bad but the water was looking brown. I am heading down to Shaw's in the morning. Hoping for a lucky break in bad conditions.

Ways to keep your wetsuit from getting smelly???

Recently, I had the same problem with my booties. Here’s what I discovered: I put about two tablespoons of baking soda in each boot, clasped the top opening of the boot shut and shook each boot, coating the inside with a layer of baking soda. The next morning: fresh-smelling booties! That...

    Suggestions for Diving Maui

Hey Ya'll, Great ideas on what to do and perhaps avoid... I'm not one for cattle cars and would like to be challenged. For the last few months I've done about two dives a week; both beach dives in all conditions..., as well as boat dives. For those of you offering to go diving with me, I...

    Suggestions for Diving Maui

I will be staying at Napili (Mauian Hotel) the first two weeks of April 2007. No one else in the family dives and I could use some advice on where to dive. Any good beach dives where I can find a buddy? Also, day boat trip ideas? Lastly, my nephew is 15 and would like to do a Discover...
