Search around on YouTube and you'll find a lot of videos. It's been a couple years since I made it down there but it was definitely worth the trip, tons of fish and clear water.
Last time i checked there wasn't much of the Sugar Barge left to look at. You can pretty much see it all just snorkeling around. Spanish Rocks would be your best bet since it's literally right south of AMI.
I think there's a ferry that runs from Ft. Desoto out to Egmont Key. I know the ruins aren't that far off the beach so you could swim there. I would put my snorkeling gear in a backpack, hop the ferry and go from there. Here's some more info.

Holy hell those wings were hot! I'd upload the pics tonight but I think I need to lay down for awhile. They should through in a free beer with that bumper sticker they give out for those.
Do we have a designated spot we're going to be in? I don't spot people in a crowd too well and it'd be a shame if I ended up sitting with more respectable folks on accident.
those guys must have bought the smallest flag they could find. their divers need to step up and tell management to get them something people will see. i have a bigger flag than that hanging up in my garage
It's always amazed me you can buy a boat and put it in the water with no type of training required. I know when I was first learning to pilot a boat I was sketchy on maneuvers, of course I wasn't blindly cruising around at full throttle either.
Every dive boat I've been off in Florida uses dive flags for all their drift dives. Generally they pair you up with a couple other divers and set you off with a flag. It's how they keep track of you and like mentioned earlier in Florida it's the law.
