    Diver Detection Sonar

30+years ago they called it the " SOSUS (SOund SUrveillance System)". Just ask the navy and CIA how they found (heard) the Russian sub that broke up in the Pacific and we tried to pick it with the "glomar explorer" from 17000ft 3DENT Your right as the discrimination ability of a unit...

    Just quit smoking

Definitely agree with you, I used to do some heavy swimming back when I smoked and after I quit there was literally no great improvement from the wind standpoint. I've known long distance swimmers who smoked like a chimney and then jumped in and swam 20+miles. Too many people worry about...

    Best Dive Boat

http://www.twin-veeboats.com/26hw.html Cant say I have any real experience with them but are getting awful popular around here lately. Have looked at them in a dealers yard and the 26 weekender looks like a dance floor and the 32 can land a aircraft on it. This guy has a Glacierbay (a...

    Diving in Melbourne

Kinda agree with what Ed Jewell said but major point is tanks dont need the O2 cleaning that partial pressure blending requires. Tanks never see O2 percentages higher than what the final "mix" is to be

    Diving licences are nothing

Whoa, Whoa, dont even start with the manatee stuff unless you know something about it. Not meant as a hijack but the manatee ***** is a sore point and leave it be said there is a lot more to it than what was illuded to in the above two posts. Oh and lets just pass another law, we passed a...

    Buoyancy

As per http://www.psychobodybuilding.com/physiology1.html specific gravity of fat = .92 specific gravity of lean body mass = 1.1 (so values closer to 1.1 indicate less fat) And bone density now is a wild card but to loose a pound of bouyancy either gain 10lbs of lean body mass or loose...

The above posts listed who was in the arena then. And on the east coast the outlook was LAC was regional, NAUI and YMCA were not affiliated with mfgs or shops and classes were being taught in YMCA's swim clubs etc. without direct connections to shops. Then we come down a step and NASDS...

    Poaching Arrests made in Stonington

Did anyone say they were picked by divers? Were they shorts or legal? It was 30yrs ago but I have seen the commercial boats set up a drop for shorts and have litterally hundreds of dozens on the designated drop(was in NY and NJ but also told of in Ma). Sounds like some enterprising...

    Solo.. Or No Solo?

For all practical purposes your right, but actually LA County had the first by several yrs and still going today also. 1954 - Al Tillman and Bev Morgan develop the first public skin and scuba diver education program in the United States. The Los Angeles County program quickly becomes the...

    Solo wreck diving

Couldn't agree with you more. After over 40yrs of diving primarily solo (mostly wreck including penetration etc), hunting, and camping generally the same way, I know by now what I can do and my limits and equip. Leave it be a alternative and for me, what I really enjoy

    Anyone know how to Bear-BQ?

Results usually depend on where their from and how big they are. One of the best pieces of meat I ever had was done as a roast (which I avoid like the plague), and was a small(<150#) bear from New Brunswick (not NJ). Tasty and tender beyond belief, and Ive also seen a old adirondak big boar...

    Harrassed by lobsterman!

A little early but there is always a drop in the catch around now, the first glut is over and the bugs are thining out, and as soon as that happens the fingers start pointing. Another problem is there is more "sports" out now and they have been known to pull a trap or two, so the paranoia...
