As with the past several years, Lake Hickory Scuba Center has assisted the Hickory City Police Department with the North Carolina Special Olympics Polar Plunge. Each year people gather at the Wildlife Access in Bethlehem, NC, to take the plunge for the Special Olympics. Safety personnel from several agencies, including Alexander County Sheriff's Office, Alexander County Rescue Squad, Bethlehem Fire and Rescue, Hickory Police Department, and of course Lake Hickory Scuba Center, donate each year to the event and supply personnel for the safety of the plungers and the spectators. Each year Lake Hickory Scuba Center will volunteer several Public Safety Divers and Rescue Divers for in water rescue of all the plungers and to clean the site of all debris before and after the event. The event will be held on February 22nd at 11:00 This year not only will Lake Hickory Scuba Center be donating as we always do but we will also be hosting donations through firstgiving.com. We are asking for anyone who is wanting to donate to use this link Lake Hickory Scuba Center , or you can go to Online Fundraising Website and Software for Events and Causes and type in Lake Hickory Scuba Center. Then simply hit the donate button. All donations are secure and will go the the North Carolina Special Olympics. Please feel free to give as much or as little as you see fit. If everyone on ScubaBoard was to donate a dollar per person, the donations would be amazing and probably be the record for this event. Prior years we have seen rain, snow, sleet, and even sunshine, but we have always had a great turnout and plenty of plungers. Below are some short videos from the 2013 Plunge. Thank you for your time and God Bless.
