I was in University..., so I was probably drinking.... :)

C'mon Gary..., I know in real life curiosity didn't kill the proverbial cat, but it does make this cat smash his forehead repeatedly against the keyboard.

What's up with April 30, 1986 at 0100?? I've been googling and the only thing I can find for April that year is Halley's Comet (which I did see.., just didn't know the year. It's all sort of a blur)

So what's the real answer?

Lets start making things up till he decides to tell us.

On April 29, 1986 I was patrolling one of our smaller lakes that afternoon when I cane upon a 7 year old girl riding her bicycle on some boat docks at a marina.

I docked the boat, escorted her off the docks and went and contacted her very party focused stoner parents. They didn’t see a problem with what she was doing but at least kept her off the docks for as long as I was there.

Around 2000 hours that night she was reported missing and last seen riding her bike up the road into the very heavy wooded area. There was only one problem with that sighting. The Bloodhounds never left the parking lot.

So a little after midnight I asked the Sgt. if I could dive. Just prior to 0100 I dropped down and saw the bike she was on earlier in the day. I recovered her body a short distance away. I stayed on the bottom with her for a few minutes hugging her and I couldn’t stop the tears.

My first one back in the 60’s and this little sweetheart have stuck with me like glue so April 29/30 are not good days. I have talked to a lot of people and shrinks about it but I think it was our department chaplain who hit the nail on the head. He said her parents didn’t care and have most likely forgotten about her so I was the one chosen not to forget her.

To top it off she suffered from epilepsy and those frickin idiots in-charge of her let her ride on the docks.

That’s it

When you told me this story, it was that seeing of the bike that stayed with me. A little girl's bike is not supposed to be down there.

Thanks again Gary for taking the burden that comes with your job.

Thats a tough one Gary.

At least she was found by someone that cared about her.
