Wes Skiles – NOGI Recipient for ARTS

This years NOGI award for arts has been awarded to Wes Skiles NOGI A lot of people would indeed describe Wes as crazy because he goes where no sane human would go, but I would describe him as the pioneer of the “overhead diving environment”. Through out his long diving career he has brought images, information and new techniques from extreme diving environments that have amazed, educated and benefited all of us in the community. His name brings thoughts of exploring places under the surface of the water that most of only dream about and the AUAS is proud to present him with this well deserved award. NOGI Award

There is no denying that his quest for adventure coupled with his drive to increase our knowledge of the world and techniques for information gathering is not only unrelenting, but honorable in a superman like manner that truly is awe inspiring.

This year two tables are sponsored at the 49th Annual NOGI Awards Gala in honor and support of Wes Skiles continued accomplishments. Recognizable leaders in the industry, Amphibico Inc.
Underwater video housings for amateurs and professionals and Dive Rite SCUBA Diving Equipment for Technical, Wreck and Cave Diving: Dive Rite, Inc have shown their support over the years and will be at the event. I recommend you take advantage of their long term support and pick their brains for stories about Wes Skiles adventures.
For example Ron Hand President of Amphibico Inc. Underwater video housings for amateurs and professionals
shared with me about a crazy jump into the ice near Ice Island during a down day where the ice opened up for only a few hours, Wes slipped through a crack between the ship that was blocked in the ice flow with a camera to bring us the most compelling images in this extreme environment.

Lemar Hires president of Dive Rite SCUBA Diving Equipment for Technical, Wreck and Cave Diving: Dive Rite, Inc wrote to me today,” I have known Wes for many years, we explored North Florida caves together and Wes always wants to capture it on film. We were at Silver Glen Springs one day filming in the first magnitude spring. I was part of the set up team to get the lighting ready. It was gnarly cave with extremely high flow. We surface to find Wes ready with the HD camera and housing. I say “Wes I
don’t think the camera is going to fit” and Wes replies something along the
line of I got to make it work. He did and came back with the footage. He
pushed a big camera into a place where most divers couldn’t even fit.

Not only does he go there, but he brings back the images in a way that we have never seen before! Thank you Wes for showing us the Art of the extreme environments of the underwater world! Congratulations on being indicted into the NOGI Fellowship. To view some of Wes Skiles work visit Karst Productions Home Page

There are only a few seats left for the 49th Annual NOGI Awards Gala so make hast and secure a seat in history!

Today people travel to far away diving destinations through out the world. It is amazing and extraordinary, but very possible and an accepted option for a vacation.
Today you don’t have to be a member of an elite diving expedition to have an elite diving experience and we can thank Carl Rossler NOGI

For the last three decades Carl Rossler has worked to bring America divers the Live Aboard dive experience to different locations all over the world. A familiar name in dive travel SEA and SEA has grown so big and been such a leader in dive travel because of Carl’s insight, drive and dedication as the President for 20 years.

Along the way he has been taking photos of the underwater world and these images can be seen in most magazines, books and advertising in the diving community. Some of his fish portraits are almost a signature to his long term commitment to the underwater world, its splendor and his quest to bring the rest of us there to enjoy and experience it ourselves first hand. To view some of his work and undertakings please visit his website at All About Scuba Diving & Snorkeling World Wide with Carl Roessler!

We are proud of his outstanding accomplishments made in the diving community and are happy to present this year’s NOGI award for Sports and Education to Carl Rossler.

This was my first time attending the NOGI awards. In a word, they were elegant. From the meal to the presentations, they were simply and uniquely elegant. I loved it!
