another option is to fly into Honolulu (which may be cheaper) and see Pearl Harbor and Mighty Mo (Get the delux tour - well worth it!) then fly out that evening to the Big Isle or better yet Maui!!!! - that way you don't have to have a room on multiple islands and airfare often comes out about the same (flights into Honolulu tend to be about as much less as an interisland flight is)
