As far as I can tell, the page here: https://www.scubaboard.com/community/account/join-user-groups is the only place to see the various opt-in user groups. Most of them don't have a description, and the ones that do only list the requirements necessary to join. They don't really tell you what the group is about.

It would be nice if a description were added. Due to another thread the "surface interval" user group was mentioned. I was curious to see what it is, but the only way I can see to find out is to click join and hope for the best.

Some groups are intriguing like "scuba chixs". Is this where people post racy pics of women in scuba gear? Is a suds supporter someone who promotes drinking at "The Pub".

Some group names are obvious, like "Padi Pros" but some aren't. Do all the groups correspond to gaining access to a particular section of scubaboard?

Most of them allow posting privileges, where non members can only read e.g. rebreather pilots

Surface interval and the pub are different as the content is only viewable by members

Scuba Chix is a women's forum although men are allowed.

SUDS stands for Soldiers Undertaking Disabled Scuba - a cause we support.

Some do, some don't. Those that don't give you the option to show the affiliated group user title.
It's all due to a hierarchy - if you don't select any, your default user title is a fish species corresponding to your post count.

Since you're a supporter, you can change yours at will.

If we described what happened in The Pub.. we would never get new blood.

It works just as well
