I tell everyone about the board I work for (in sigline). I take my freediving and Freedive spearfishing very seriously, and as such like to welcome the curious into the fold. I tell folks about scuba board too, but not as many. unfortunetly my rather strong opinions on "what is right in diving" leave me issue a warning when I recomend people to boards I have no control over (like this one) to let them know there are as many morons as there are pros :D at least scubaboard is a far cry from Rec.scuba :p this board advocates scuba-spearfishing, something I am VERY against, so if people talk to me about spearfishing I would not tell them about it. scuba questions? for sure:p

I never expect a perk from dropping a website. maybe I should start? :D

as I travel all over the world diving, and work in the dive industry I see it as free advertising for the websites If I spread the word. If all your friends are board members, why not invite potential dive buddies to get on board too?

ah marketing.....

I usually get my reviews for a dive op from ScubaBoard, and so far everytime I've booked with someone, I mention to them where I heard of their op.

Most operators claim to never have heard of ScubaBoard, so I find it a good opportunity to promote our favorite board.

I have yet to notice any sort of preferential treatment, though, despite talking up ScubaBoard. Maybe I'm not reading the reviews right. :)

ScubaBoard: One of the best kept secrets for better diving!

I have to admit that I am guilty of talking to one or two people about ScubaBoard. :D Sure I get some freebies, but most of all I get to meet some new friends.

I learned a lot from this board. It's the best thing the Scuba Community has got going for it to promote safe diving practices. Sure, we have a few forums that I don't fully agree with: DIR, Solo, as well as a few others. But the board is not about ME. It's bigger than I am, and hopefully I will never lose sight of me only being a small part of a wonderful diving machine.

The board has never been about crass commercialism. It has never been about how many freebies we can get. It is about continuing education on Diver safety and awareness of our fragile oceans. It is about meeting a ton of new dive buddies and being able to explore new vistas with them.

This place ROCKS! I am not ashamed of saying so!

I work in the hospitality industry and by all means go for every perk you can get, most people do it all the time. Just asking for a lower rate in a hotel will get you one... unless the whole area is sold out then you pay top dollar.
As far as promoting this board I tell everybody about it wether they are divers or just thingking about it, this is a great place with tons of information in all facets of our sport. If it get me a discount great if i steer someone here who did not know about it even better.

I'm on the other end of the line as I work with a dive OP...When the dive is over I pass out business cards and a big ad for the ScubaBoard is on the back.

I second that! I've learned soooooo much here. And met a few dive buddies to boot.
I've then taken what I've learned out into the "real" world and used it to make better buying decisions, to make better training decisions, to make better dive trip decisions. I've learned alot about my gear and how to fix it. And the research info I've obtained on a multitude of subjects is just incredible. Accident analysis, DCI/DCS.......you name it. You've got such a variety of members here. Doctors, Lawyers, Computer Techs, Marine Biology students, Commercial divers, Engineers, Photographers, EMT's, Carpenters, whatever.

That's what makes this place great!

If it weren't for scuba bulletin boards, I'd just be Phil Garner, anonymous diver. :11:

Wasn't that a Dan Akroyd character on SNL???

I almost never mention SB, unless it comes up.

I don't usual set out with the intention of plugging SB, it just seems to happen. Those of you that know me in RL know that I make friends everyday everywhere I g, hey .... I like to talk and listen. It is very unlikely that SB won't come up in our conversations.

r37691:
I never thought about mentioning SB. On vacation I like to be just an anonymous diver.

... and if you told them about ScubaBoard, people would recognize you as r37691 ???
