I usually only get the ad once per visit to Scubaboard, usually on the first or second click. Just click anywhere outside the pop-up box and it will go away and continue on to where you wanted to go.

I usually only open it on my phone when clicking View the Thread in an email. Otherwise I use my laptop for reading new posts.

Edit: clicked new posts on my phone and no ads.

It's possible the hacker who took over the mod account could have installed a script to serve ads and direct payment to his own external account.
