My best friend and I are spending the day tomorrow in Avalon and diving Casino Point- which sites are the best for shore diving?

For just the day, the Dive Park there at Casino Point is your best bet in my opinion.

You can probably find a map of the underwater sights to see at either Scuba Luv or Catalina Divers Supply, or even on the internet somewhere ( I dont know where but I could swear I've seen it on SB even.).

That ought to fill your day up.

Have fun!

Hey Pinkiriz, if you check the California Kelp Divers, SoCal forum on this site, there is a sticky with extensive information.

Have a good dive (or two, or three....). BTW, welcome to the Board.

The only shores dives around Avalon are Casino Point and off Descanso beach. You have to check in with the Harbor Patrol if you want to dive off Descanso beach because it is an outer harbor anchorage. That is where the wreck Valiant is.

Casino Point dive park is essentially a single "dive site"

I would recommend getting a pass from the Harbor Master in Avalon to dive the wreck of the Valiant. Bit of a surface swim, but I thought it was worth it. (We did the swim from the dive park instead of Descanso beach, in order to not have to drag our gear to the beach and THEN do the swim.)

Gangs? What rubbish in the news. We've got a bunch of young punks who think they're tough. Not much to worry about if you're in neoprene... I don't think black is a gang color.
