I have a Cannon A570IS with housing. The built in flash just does not cut it here in New England. Any suggestions for a reasonably priced strobe and tray. I realize thus may be an oxymoron, but I really dont want to spend more on a strobe than I do on the camera+housing if possible.

Thanks

I was in the same boat with my A520. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a strobe that was less than camera + housing (with tray and arm) unless I dropped all the way to the really little ones. So, I ended up with a used DS50 on a single-arm Ike tray, with the EV controller. Cost me a bit over $300.

And since then I've upgraded to my DSLR rig, with 2 newer DS50s (for the TTL synchronization). So I'd be willing to part with it, for $300 or so. But I'm not sure that's in your intended price range.

Joe Liburdi had been diving for 50 years and probably taking pictures with candle light:)
In any event, he is alway willing to help a diver with a photography problem. He' been my mentor for 10 years. You want a strobe for a price you can afford? Contact Joe at

Shellback is referring to the new Ikelite Auto AF35 system. Its a great system for a very reasonable price and perfect for the compact point & shoot system. Retail is $425 but should be found for a hair under $400.

I am planning to buy strobe or strobes for my video, but I dont know what is better. one 100w strobe or two 50 amp.... recommendations?
thanks.

Well if you have 2 strobe, you can illuminate a bigger space.
