The XZ-1 can do great macro.. I don't recommend using super-macro mode, even with that trick on DP review. You will be much too close to the subject.
It's much better to zoom in, use macro mode, and use a strong 67mm threaded macro lens like the Dyron +7 or Subsee +10. You'll get incredible macro results. Although I still think the G12 is the best compact camera for macro. Hope this helps! - Scott
