We used to see alligators in Crystal River Florida when we were kids. We would dive there in the springs. The alligators scared me but my dad made us get in and dive anyway. He always insisted that only crocodiles go after people. (he makes things up though.) I wonder if they are still there....
 
That begs the question . . .
Did the gator actually open its mouth and attempt to seize the diver?

Or was it just merely sharing the same body of water and traveling in the same direction?

We had just the opposite thing happen here. The dive team leader on a recovery grabbed what he thought was the bumper of the car that was was being sought.

He realized what it was when it started moving.
 
The gator may have been yawning it was so bored. Hey most animals are at least curious.
