I know this is an old thread, but if anyone is interested, beneath the surface makes loc line arm systems (along with trays, handles, various accessories, ect) that have an inner steel cable running through them. That way even if the loc line should come apart, everything is still held together. They also make the regular ball and joint arms too.

FYI... I'm not affiliated with them in any way. I stopped by their booth at DEMA to buy something and have been impressed with their personalized customer service.

Not putting down ULCS arms, they work great supporting a heavy video light my buddy uses. But all the component pieces (tray, grip, 2 arms, clamps, light adapter) purchased were $250 retail.

If it's the cost that bothers you, there are several much cheaper versions of rigid arm sets available. Check with the guys at Optical Ocean Sales- they have a couple of other lines of support arms and clamps that are considerably more reasonable in price. Probably about on a par with the Ikelite arms, I would say. They even have the O ring around the balls. I just ordered up a focus light with support arm and clamp, and the YS-BB arm with 1" ball was about 9 bucks. Woody

Jack at optical ocean is great to work with and I'm guessing woody is talking about the i-das line which is also excellent
