Atlantis Azores Captains Log October 11 – 17, 2014
- Bohol Itinerary

This week’s dive adventure had a great fun loving group of 16 from ‘Discover Scuba Diving’. We began with the magical shale shark snorkel at Oslob, then we moved on to the wonderful walls and coral gardens of Sumilon Island.

Cabilao Island was our next day’s stop and is a definite ‘must do’, as the wall there is magically festooned with life. We dropped in for several dives before setting the Azores’ course for Panglao Island for our next underwater adventure stop. With brilliant sunshine to help guide us, this was perfect for the photographers as the colors were seemingly jumping out of the soft corals, the sea fans and the reef that was filled with schooling fish in every color of the rainbow. We then ventured inland on a tour with stops to visit the tiny and shy tarsiers (primates) and the magnificent Chocolate Hills. These sights are so unique that they both are on the back of the Filipino 200 peso note!

Our next stop was the postcard perfect Balicasag Island. A “divers paradise” with its walls, coral gardens swarming with colorful reef fish, feast of frogfish, and turtles, along with the multitude of little critters that later made the night dive a sheer delight. Additionally the south-side walls are just spectacular, and with the entire Island being a series of dive sites, two full days are barely enough to see what’s there! ☺

The next morning we headed down to legendary Apo Island, which is a world-famous marine sanctuary. The intense reef growth is stunning. Today we were followed closely by several turtles, territorial Titan triggerfish and Maori wrasse, aka hump headed wrasse that can grow to over 6 foot long and 180 kgs in weight!

We then returned to the close by Atlantis Dumaguete resort for some spa action and a leisurely afternoon that was followed by our scrumptious wind up dinner – a delicious pig roast buffet. What a great week with a great bunch of divers. Thanks for joining us, and we hope to see you all again when you…return as a friend!
